Bathroom extractor fan goes on forever. Bedroom cafetiere too small for size of coffee sachet. Inferior sauce sachets at breakfast. It would have been nice if the log fires were on fire in the communal lounge and bar. TripAdvisor Torbayaotearoa

Location. Perfect base to explore the town and glorious Devon countryside. Attractive venue. Comfortable and clean room well equipped. Bonus two tub arm chairs. Comfortable headboard. Decent shower. Superior loo roll paper for a change. Spacious and comfortable communal lounge area with plenty of extra comfy sofas. Happy crew. Excellent value. Simple breakfast which does the job. The buses only run on a Sunday during the summer (variable but March/April - September) so getting here by bicycle from Newton Abbot station was challenging. There are public car parks for cars. The fire doors closing were a little loud from 6am onwards but I've never been in a hotel where this isn't the case. Will stay here again if I'm back in the area.

Delightful old building which has been very tastefully modernised internally and run as a hotel. They were able to store my bicycle in a separate part of the building which is otherwise used for events. The room was a decent size with the usual facilities with a generous number of coffee sachets and toiletries. The room had an old sash window which is openable but with the draught-excluders and radiators, was very warm (late October stay). The bathroom is very modern and pretty high end with good pressure and temperature in the showers. Internet was free and ran at about 80 mbps download in practice which at time of writing is the top speed in the village. 4G signal was great on EE. The cooked breakfast was a good size and a great experience - the coffee was particularly high quality and was ground beans in a french press and I also had a couple of slices of toast and jam (the usual pastries, fruit, cereal, yogurt were available). A great range for dinner (which runs from 6pm each day) and was just what I needed to recover from the hill climb getting here.

The rooms are a bit tired and dinky. 'Quirky' is how they are advertised but there are a few bits here and there that could do with a tidy up (general decor of the hotel is great).

The food here is always excellent and alongside the location is one of the main reasons I keep coming back here. The staff are always polite helpful and friendly. Breakfast is always great too.

This is a lovely old pub that has been tastefully renovated. The room was lovely, nicely decorated, with plenty of room and brilliant lighting. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was lovely and served over a long period which we appreciated as we needed a lie in. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Excellent "full English" breakfast included - so much better than a budget hotel chain's offering. Also no charge for our dog to stay, and dog allowed in restaurant.

The rooms have no sound protection and you can literally hear everything on the TVs/music/people talking in the adjoining rooms

The hotel had a very pleasant restaurant with a low ceiling, but it was quite dark in the corner where we sat for our meals. The restaurant only had wall lights with dark coloured shades and no ceiling lights. It was difficult to see your food and if you were eating on a winter's evening you would struggle.

We had a very cosy comfortable room with an ensuite and tea making facilities. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The evening meal was very well cooked with generous portions. A good choice of food on the menu.

Could hear an air con unit or something droning through the night, I guess that was room location & the fact I'm a lighter sleeper!
