Not enough staff around at breakfast, and some can come across a little abrupt/unfriendly.

Our 3rd time here as we love the location and the spacious eating which is dog friendly

Nothing it was lovely. Hotel could probably do with a revamp soon but clean and tidy.

Staff very friendly. Most service done at the bar as opposed to waiter service which is fine. Dinner was very good and large portions, as was breakfast. You could say it was expensive (£140 for room and £100 for dinner with wine) but its an expensive area, stayed in the fairfax the night before and similar pricing.

Very enjoyable stay in an historic hotel in a delightful location

Only minor criticism was the actual size of the bedroom which was not very big for a "superior" room, albeit it IS a very old building, so maybe we should make allowance for that!

We booked a "superior" en-suite room for two nights which was very comfortable and very attractively furnished, perfectly in keeping with the age of the hotel (part-Elizabethan). We loved the log fires and armchairs in each of the public rooms which were kept well stoked and which had that lovely wood-smell. The food was delicious and very fairly priced with a wide choice of dishes, while the bar staff (Adrian in particular) were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was also excellent and plentiful. Helmsley is also a lovely small town and lies adjacent to Riveaulx Abbey and other historic sites of interest including a fascinating medieval castle (English Heritage site)

The bathroom had not been cleaned - hairs on floor and bath. Bathroom bin not emptied. I told a very nice person on desk who cleaned it herself and was very apologetic. We had dinner in a lovely room. Food was decent not great

Their Booking.com site advertised free parking which turned out to be first come first served - quite disappointing.

Our room was comfortable, the shower was great and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. The character of the public areas was spot on and the food was excellent.

Breakfast seating, maybe should have registered room nbr and been allotted a table, it felt like we had been forgotten, the restaurant prices didn't reflect the quality of the meal I bought, totally underwhelmed, prices were steep for drinks, two hotel/eateries very close by charging a lot less for drinks.

Breakfast, waited a while for order taking, came lukewarm, second day it was better, the garden area is a nice touch.

Better bed linen as seemed to small for the bed. Room was too far from reception and had to go up a few flight of stairs along long corridors which left us out of breath.

Lovely breakfast very good choice. Staff were very good and friendly. Cosy fires in each of the reception rooms. Rooms nice and warm.
