Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomIt’s a very old building so the top floors are a bit on a slant! But it was fine

AustraliaI had a street-facing room and because it was warm, I had the window ajar during the night so had a bit of road noise to contend with. The pillows were like pancakes - so flat!
Great central location on the High Street. Very large and spacious room (although bathroom a bit small). Reception staff member at check-in was professional, welcoming and efficient. Whilst some may call it dated, everything was clean and in good working order.

United KingdomNothing really - a great budget hotel!
I didn't have high expectations due to other reviews, bit the room was clean and comfortable and the shower was hot and a good pressure. I was checked in promptly and check out was straightforward. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room, which were very welcome. The hotel is a 15 minute walk from the station and right on the high street so the location couldn't be better. Yes, it's not a luxury hotel, but it's great value for the price.

CanadaThe only negative was that there was quite a lot of noise from the people in the room above moving about. No doubt this is due to the age (350 years) of the hotel!
A nice affordable and comfortable option for an overnight stay. Having their own parking was a definite plus! I didn't need a four poster bed but it fit in with the room's decor!

United KingdomWe noticed some windows at the rear of the property were broken and replaced with boarding, so security was a concern. The grouting in the tiles of the shower were discoloured and detracted from the overall look. Double bed mattress was a bit uncomfortable but still managed to sleep.
Good location, free parking, polite reception, spacious room with private bathroom, fan, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, sofa including good decor.

United KingdomThe bathroom was on a slope and I had to leave the window open to shower because the steam sets the alarms off apparently. There was only one small flat pillow supplied, very uncomfortable.
One flat pillow was very uncomfortable, the bed was ok however everything was clean and tidy.

United KingdomThe light above the mirror in the bathroom did not work and I did not use the shower as water drainage had stuff coming out of it.
It was central in the town of battle on the High Street.

AustraliaA few tiles on the bathroom floor were cracked and not set in so they would move when stepped on. The exit light above the window flashes on and off in green at night which was a little annoying
The location was spectacular, just down the road from the Abbey

United KingdomThe stairwell was a bit tired
Travelled with 17 year old daughter and 12 year old son. Had a triple room (double and single beds) lovely big room, nice big bathroom with shower. The beds were comfy and was very adequate. Staff were great. A phone call away if reception wasn't staffed. Car park has limited spaces and is a bit of a squeeze

United KingdomThe refurbishment is clearly a work in progress, and there are a few places looking a bit tired. However, the owners are clearly being true to the historic building, so don't expect chain-store furniture or off-the-peg decor. It's old, it's quirky, and all the better for it. I look forward to seeing the finished results.
Friendly staff and a great location. Private parking on site in an area where parking is at a premium. They are clearly currently updating the hotel, which is a fantastic historic building, and I am sure the final results will be stunning. Good wifi, and a comfortable bed. A place full of character. It isn't your average chain hotel - so expect a few oddities - but offers fantastic value for money in a top location.

United Kingdom- hotel looks a bit run-down and dated - no lift for elderly guests who may not be so good with the steep stairs
- central location in Battle - free parking for guests - en-suite facilities, even in small rooms - availability of twin bedrooms (not just doubles) - excellent value for money (affordable rooms despite summer holiday season) - helpful staff who kindly offered to carry up suitcases for my elderly parents
