Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The hotel was very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I just found my room quite cold. They did provide me with a heater, but it took a long time to heat up the room. Also, I had no hot water to have a shower with in the morning. They did explain that the boiler gets turn on at a certain time, but I wished I was told this when I checked in. l understand that the hotel has been taken over by new owners so they are finding their feet and it expected to have the odd teething problems.

United KingdomWe received a phone call 3 days before we were due to arrive asking us for payment there and then for our 2 night stay. We told her we had already paid. On arrival we produced proof of payment made through booking.com at time of booking. The breakfast we had paid for wasn't available as they had only just taken the hotel over and no eating or drinking facilities were available. They told us we were going to get our breakfast payment returned to us which never happened. We also had to give them our credit card details for them to 'hold' £50 ( but not to charge) in case of damage to our room. When we returned home, we found they had taken, from that credit card £168.30 without our knowledge or agreement. we contacted Booking.com who managed to get our money back from The Mayfair Hotel, eventually. We will never trust them or forgive their actions and would advise people to avoid this establishment. Such a shame when they appeared to be so friendly and helpful. I FEEL I SHOULD ADD TO THIS REVIEW FOLLOWING A VERY APPOLGETIC PHONE CALL FROM THE HOTEL MANAGER. She explained the charge was made in error and also reimbursed us for the breakfast we had paid for and was not available. They had only been open a week when we arrived so I am happy to accept their apology and wish them well for future success. They are perfectly situated between railway station and the town, easy walking distance even for oldies like us. Their friendliness and kindness cant be faulted and am sure the error we experienced will not be repeated.
The staff were very friendly and the location was perfectly situated to be able to walk to the railway station, and to be able to walk into town and to the bic.

United KingdomRang me up a 2 weeks before my trip and demanded I pay over the phone to secure my booking. Then a week before put a £50 hold on my card for any loss or damage without telling me - no where in terms and conditions of room. Got to hotel for 3.30pm to be told check in is at 4pm when my confirmation stated 3pm. So wasn’t allowed to check in. Also tried to charge me another £50 holding deposit. Staff talking super loud outside bedroom at 5am so got up and left to come home. To didn’t work and no remote to be found. Definitely won’t be back.

United KingdomWhere to start? Having taken over the hotel, & reopened on the day of our arrival the owners clearly weren't ready to receive guests. Whilst the manager 'talked the talk' she seemed to be 'heading cats' when it came to her staff. The receptionist appeared to know nothing of the hotel & hospitality industry. As my friend and i were out for the evening, we were given a four digit security code by the receptionist & told if there were any problems he would be available. On returning we soon found that the code did not work, the receptionist actually nowhere to be seen & the emergency contact number on the door did not work. As two ladies alone in an unfamiliar area we were so fearful we went a cross the road to the Holiday Inn. This nightmare only ended when the manager came back across to the Mayfair just as two guests came back & used a completely different code to get in. Unfortunately, continually saying 'sorry' upon hearing our plight simply isn't enough
