Old outdated furniture that was black and dark so grim really unpleasant to be in the kitchen lounge area. Lamp in the lounge area not working, booked for 2 adults and only had one bath towel. Smoke detector went off from shower steam which was frightening as they had a sign in the elevator stating if smoke detector alarmed it would activate whole building fire alarm. A complete fallacy. Noise from nearby nightclub annoyingly constant.

The unit itself felt a little claustrophobic with all the fire doors - to the room, to the kitchen, to the outside hallway. There was no hot water in the pipes and we had to wash dishes with freezing water. Good thing there was an electric shower in one bathroom that all 5 of us had to use.

The keys were easily accessible via lockbox/safe, the main building door was also accessible via electronic code so it's a worry-free check-in. Check-out was also easy with the key drop box. The unit was accessible via lift, and the bedrooms were comfortable to sleep in. The location of the place is convenient - walking distance to a convenience store, grocery, and fast food. It's also a bit of a walk but still close to the main bus station and train station which is okay for overnight travelers.

The late night parties behind our hotel were horrendous.. woke us regularly and didn’t finish until around 4.30am every night..

Only 2 things: lights in the en suite were very dull and the remote control for the TV was a little temperamental.

The heating control didn’t work correctly and it wasn’t a hair dryer in the apartment.

The living room and the kitchen was perfect. The location of the apartment is directly in the city center with easy way to shops, pubs, restaurants and bus stop as well.

The main door to the building wasn't very secure and easily pulled open.

Sadly the keys weren't in the lock box as previously mentioned but fortunately the reception staff were in the office to receive them.

It was hard to put finger on it but it did not feel luxurious. It felt a bit man-cave like with too much black everywhere although I get why you would use leather sofas in an apartment which is let. The TV needed updating and one a little bigger again would make you think the place a bit more special. The bar stools were a bit wobbly as well and the eating area meant you ate side by side and not across from one another. We also ended up buying our own wine glasses because the ones supplied were like drinking out of a thimble. There was only an ability to open one of the windows in the lounge and the roller blinds weren't that good in the day which you had to keep down for privacy as you are across from offices. Again they were black which added to the man-cave vibe. The biggest bug bear was the bed and size of the bedroom. The bed was small for a couple these days and it had an annoying tendency to make you roll together - perhaps turning the mattress regularly would cure this. I can't see how the bed size could be cured however given the size of the room but it would be the main reason we would not choose to stay again.

You could not fault the location although it wasn't with a city view. It was a short walk to everything we wanted to see and eat at. There were no issues about shower or bathing facilities and overall the furniture was comfortable. There was a lift up to the floor our apartment was on so no lugging cases. Although we did not trouble reception when we did speak to the lady there she was helpful and very pleasant. The room was overall to a decent standard just not exceptional but that can come down to price I know. You did not feel like you could come back and relax with a drink as the dark colours and furnishings made you feel a bit cramped.

Location was fantastic!! Right in the heart of the city, apartments were spacious and clean and had all that you needed for a short stay. We were a larger (family) group so booked a couple of apartments and wouldn't hesitate to book again. I highly recommend The Spires, very convenient.

Most enjoyable stay in very comfortable and spacious apartment in an excellent location for all attractions in merchant city and surrounding restaurants, bars and venues. Welcoming and helpful reception staff. Would certainly recommend and hope to stay again.

Just nit-picking as great value - Could have done with blinds or curtains in the living toom (the blinds are see through, which felt a bit weird with windows across the street overlooking) - The location is brilliant but also a draw back as the music from a bar kept me awake most of the night started at about 11pm and did not stop until about 3:30am - City centre tho so what do you expect!
