Bit tatty and dirty in places. Could do with a makeover to take it out of the 1980s. Carpet in bathrooms is never a good combination.

    Nothing it was really nice

Something about it was really nice and very friendly host. It was an old building but I found it homely and very nice, the host was a really lovely Chinese lady, very friendly and made us feel really welcome, the room had an amazing view over the surrounding moors. A good breakfast that set us up for the day, very central, I`d definitely stay again.

The town was small and somewhat boring. However, this was not a significant part of our trip.

I love the willingness of the owner who even though the breakfast was served after 7am, took an extra mile by serving us breakfast before 6 am as we were going to Haadrian's Wall Hike. She (owner) was polite, positive and professional at the same time. Further, she exceed our expectations by far.

The decor is fairly tired, and reflected in the price. Unfortunately the water board were digging up the road so parking and journeys were disrupted. Sadly the indian food no longer available on site.

The landlady is very friendly and helpful. The room was quite big and clean, the washbasin water was hot immediately and the toilet was just outside the door, so no distance away. Good wi-fi.

Basic room. No shower. Toilet constantly dirty (as if not flushed), piled up with paint pots. etc, and made a awful noise. Window stuck slightly open, immediately above bar door, where folk were out smoking a chatting. Staff, here's your key, get on wth it.

I suppose it suited my purpose, but even at such a low price, I expected better.

It was very basic, the bar area was very tired and cramped as was the dining area. Smokers congregated at the foot of the stairs leading up to the rooms and the smell of smoke was noticeable all the way up to the rooms.

I suppose the property could have been cleaner but it was value for money and even though we had to share a bathroom the view from our window was great

The downstairs had an excellent Indian cafe or take away. The landlady was very helpful and friendly - in fact, she is not a character you would quickly forget. She made us smile. We also liked the full English breakfast. The surrounding countryside - Hadrians wall etc was breathtaking.

Slightly tired decor; smell of cigarette smoke drifting up from the front door where smokers seemed to congregate, and as advertised, some noise from bar- but did not really bother us. Would have been nice to have a TV in room.

In the centre of Alston. Cheery and accommodating landlady looked after us well and did not mind the mud created by walking from Dufton. Good breakfast, and a good Indian meal in the restaurant the night before.

It is on a steep hill and there is no dedicated parking for guests (you have to take a chance with on-street parking which can be crowded). It is a rather basic pub (as well as being a cheap and cheerful B & B) so can be noisy until quite late in the evening, especially at weekends, but (to be fair) one is warned about this.

The friendly proprietor (who hails all the way from Beijing) who made us feel very welcome.

For the price we paid we have no complaints. Perhaps it would be more appealing if the entrance and stairs were spruced up a little.

The lady owner is lovely! She is very welcoming and cannot do enough for you to ensure you enjoy your stay. She is concerned that guests may not always get a good night's sleep as the rooms are over the pub but this is pointed out before booking so we were well aware that there may be problems. However we had no problems sleeping! Facilities were adequate and clean and breakfast was wonderful. Very good value for money. The scenery is breathtaking and Alston provided an excellent stop-over. The building is in need of serious repair and redecoration, but as a group of cyclist looking for a bed for one night it was OK. But I wouldn't bring the wife as she wouldn't go past the front door.

Poor cleanliness - e.g. bits of mouldy food on carpets, mouldy teabag left in kettle ... . Uncomfortable beds with springs sticking out. Lack of hot water in showers. Inedible breakfast. Poor quality rooms and decor.

    Good food in Indian restaurant.

The television didn't work, the room was quite gloomy even with the light on.

The staff we're extremely pleasant and accommodating. Although the place requires a new carpet and freshening up, the welcome was no less appreciated.

I really like the price and quality idea. Looking to the photos the room does not look so good, but I am not regret of booking it: it was clean, warm enough, tasty food in restaurant, polite and helpful staff. It is not definitely for posh people but comparing the other UK hotels I was this is fair enough with the price and very good quality!

Don't expect to get a breakfast! I was told that their kitchen had burnt out some 4 months previously. Apparently, Booking.com had been already been told about this, so perhaps it's their fault that reservations are still being taken for B&B. They charged us £35 instead of £50, which seemed like a reasonable compromise to me. Opening hours seem very erratic but this appears to apply to the whole of the curious little town of Alston!

The room was very spacious and comfortable. Good value for money, if you're OK with a bit of rough 'n' ready. Snobs look elsewhere.

The place is a bit ramshackle and probably a bit noisey of a weekend for young families, the bar seems to be the mainstay of the business. Lack of facillities for evening meal and breakfast was an issue.

Rooms were reasonably clean and comfortable for a short stopover.
