Beautiful location, clean, pleasant room, breakfast delicious and cooked and presented well, evening meals delicious and staff lovely and nothing too much trouble. Only downside were the stairs as I find them difficult now as I am older and a walk in shower as getting in and out of a bath is also difficult. But no complaints at all as I did manage ok. Thank you for a lovely stay ❤️

My only gripe was that the pillows on my bed were rather lumpy and may need replacing.

Food was great and the staff were lovely and helpful. The bedroom was comfy, clean and what I needed. I would stay again though, as a great price for what I needed.

Could have done with having a shower in the room

A very good choice for breakfast, we chose the full cumbrian which was excellent and in addition to the cereals, it certainly set us up for the day. In the evening we ate there and i chose the steak and ale pie which went well with the choice of ales on sale.

Beds were not overly comfortable, but that's personal preference as we prefer a hard mattress due to issues with back. Not ideal having bathroom across the hall, but we were aware of this before booking and it was locked to ensure it was private access for our room only.

Had a lovely one night stay after visiting the zoo. Stayed in the family room with our two children. Friendly and helpful staff, clean room and lovely food. Could cater for our daughter who has coeliac disease therefore needs gluten free food. Would definitely stay again.

Comfortable room, and very helpful staff. We needed an early get away in the morning and we were offered a takeaway breakfast, which was spot on. Food in the evening was a good portion, and tasty. Again good waiting staff.

Was a sudden very cold weekend, the heating could have been turned up a notch in the restaurant but might have caught them off guard. We where ok in the bedroom once we had turned the radiator up.

Very nice breakfast, all hot and nicely presented

No heating in the room when we arrived extremely cold took a good few hours to heat up. Shower was temperamental

Was a place we spent a lot of our younger years. Was a trip down memory lane. Staff were lovely, food very good. I’m GF and there was a decent choice.

The bed was really comfy, but it did squeak every-time we turned over, it can be a bit of putting for a nights sleep! Breakfast was good for a fry up, apart from a hard egg...! I love 'eggs benedict' but it had too much sauce and again the eggs were over'. It would be much better if condiments were on the table, so you didn't have to ask or wait for them. Breakfast waitress was great!

I loved the reception here, the real inn, open fires, real ale. Lovely friendly pub in a great location for the lakes. I would definitely recommend a visit here. Love it when breakfast is included as well. A lovely pub with rooms.

    Power cuts!

Great little 'olde worlde' inn. Very rustic in all aspects, as you would expect from a place of that age, but delivered a great experience. Rooms basic but clean, food fantastic, and all the staff very helpful. We had the pleasure of a power cut in the village on one night, which delayed our meal a little, but the staff were great, and we got to eat eventually when the power came back on after a couple of hours. Would have no problem recommending this property!

The bathroom was across the corridor from the room and felt cold and a bit damp . The wall heater didn’t work to warm up the room.

The location was rural, peaceful and in a farming community. The pub was bustling and part of the village. We particularly enjoyed the second evening’s dinner in the bar where we chatted to locals.

Not fair to criticize a place as old as this.

Breakfast and dinner were very good. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The attic room was well equipped and fitted out as well as can be expected in a 500 year old inn! If you like uneven floors and leaning furniture then this is for you! Very well managed.
