Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United Kingdom( I hope I am wrong with this one but I will tell what I think anyway) : The receptionist (M) told me on the 2nd evening of my stay that my there was a problem with my booking, that my booking agent had made a mistake and booked only for one night. He said he has spoken to the owner to let me stay if I pay him. I said its impossible because I booked through booking.com. He asked me to show the receipt I showed him emails and said I have a printed confirmation that I could bring. He asked me to send screenshots on Whatsapp, I said I wasn't comfortable sharing my number so he took picture from his phone. He said I hope you weren't offended, but to be honest it all sounded a lie to get a tourist to pay more. When I came back with the printed confirmation, he said he is sorry but the error was with some other customer who had left and showed me from a distance a Whatsapp conversation in his phone with the "owner" apparently saying I was okay and the problem had been with other customer. All of this sounded hoax to me and a way of extracting money because on the first evening itself he knew I had my booking for 2 nights. I highly doubt his claims and the matter should be looked into by the owners. The 2nd bathroom of the floor I was on was dirty-all toilets. My dorm didn't have any dustbin. The receptionist didn't give me pillow covers and bedsheets on arrival. I also had to separately ask him for toilet paper.
Location was central, the room had adequate heating, the kitchen and living room areas seemed nice

United KingdomThe room itself wasn’t very clean, it was quite dusty on the surfaces, stuff from previous guests still on the floor and under the beds like a dirty sock, bottle caps, empty product boxes, also hair on my clean pillowcases.
very comfortable mattress, 2 pillows which is always appreciated, I was warm enough and the staff were great about getting me last minute access, as I arrived late and had to stay overnight unexpectedly. Also lite real around the corner from the train station which was very convenient.

United KingdomOk so this was a cheap stay, but I still think there should be a curtain in a room overlooking the main street. The single sheet we were given to cover the window was fairly useless.

United KingdomThe description says they have a big comfortable sitting room and a kitchen, I sat down for 20 minutes and was told that they close that room at 6.30pm, in which case they sent me to bed like my Mam would have back in the day! I had work to do on my laptop. Don't get me wrong, there was a tiny table and a chair in 1 half of the dorm, but I was infringing on the female half of the room. When I asked why are they closing this room, staff member said it's pretty standard for hostels to do this. I've stayed in dozens of hostels and I've never saw that happen before. Annoying to say the least.
The bed was ok and the location was good

United KingdomTook 40 mins to accept my booking in person, despite paying 2 months in advance. Dorm room cohabitants smoking out of window and were clearly under the influence of at least alcohol. The staff saw, were aware, but seemed unphased. Felt unsafe. Would not recommend solo travellers.

Portugalnothing like the pictures, it is deserted with no staff around. you are supposed to call them when you arrive. I wanted to talk to them to try and arrange a second night (30£ per night for a 8 beds shared room, unfortunately it would still be cheaper than the other accommodation in town) but no one pick up the phone. called several times until I gave up and went back to Glasgow. oh wifi in the building does not work. finally it is hard to sleep at night because the place is next to a pub.
even though there was no staff around in any of the days I was there, the place was relatively clean. the location is good during the day however, at night, you are right next to pubs and can be tricky to sleep.

United KingdomI booked a non-refundable room. However I got Covid and had to self-isolate. I contacted the hotel a few days before my booking to ask if the dates could be moved and I was happy to pay a fee. They ignored my email and did not respond. I then called Booking.com customer service who emailed the hotel, the hotel ignored that communication too. Finally Booking.com called the hotel and it was at this point they declined my request. I appreciate the non-refundable stance, but I think the madatory isolation due to covid is exceptional and I contacted the hotel well in advance offering to pay a fee to switch the dates, but they just ignored me and took the money. I think the ethos demonstrated by Willy Wallace Hostel goes against the spirit of the hospitality and travel industry. Fortunately, Booking.com gave me a travel voucher for my next hotel stay because they believed I was treated unfairly by this hotel.
In my opinion, this hotel owner must be ruthless, which is good to know in the sense of purposefully avoiding them.
