Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Beds weren’t as comfortable as we’re used to but that’s not a huge problem.
Had everything we needed, even milk in the fridge ready for a cuppa. Really close to the centre.

Excellent location, apartment was clean, tidy with all the amenities we needed for a 2 night stay. Fantastic value vs hotel rates. Hosts were very helpful in sorting out an issue I had with my Booking.com account. Would definitely book again and recommend to family/friends.

Fantastic apartment for a stay in York. Very spacious for a family of four bound for the viking festival. Short walking distance to all action, pubs and restaurants.

Two flights of stairs and no lift. TV not a smart TV so couldn't access netflix etc., which would have helped during rain and flood.
Great location. Really central. Lots of bars and restaurants close by. Town flooded when we got there but still had access. Quiet. Warm. Well stocked. Easy check in. Pleasurable experience and lovely place to stay.

Property was spotlessly clean but it in need of an update, flat itself was spacious and the beds were comfy other than needing an update on decor I literally couldn’t fault the place

It was all good.

Nothing for us but this would not be suitable for disabled people as it has four flights of steps to the apartment.

We found the directions a bit difficult to follow to locate the building in the rain with luggage. Also, just a small thing, salt & pepper would've been good to have and maybe some oil for cooking, everything else was great. Something we appreciate when staying in a new town is local maps and info, so maybe this could be provided for future guests.
Very clean and spacious apartment, well provisioned, warm and comfortable.

Drainage issue in the shower tray which did drain but very slowly. Toilet backed up we were reluctant to flush toilet paper as it needed a few flushes to get rid of. Parking which is not the owners fault was a nightmare. We tried 3 NCP car Parks and all were full. Ended up parking at the train station which was cheap £12 for the weekend but a 10-15 minute walk. Again not the owners fault but beware beforehand I suppose it didn’t help being Christmas Markets and a weekend. We tried at 3 different times during the day and evening but all car parks were full.
Location was excellent. Easy access to the property and had everything we needed for a weekend stay. Communication from the owner was great pre-arrival

A short welcome set of instructions would have been helpful - quick guide to putting the radiators on and the need to switch the hot water tank on before you run out of hot water. An extra touch would have been to have timed the radiators to come on from our arrival time as a very cold spell of weather was forecast.
Excellent location. Good size for 2 people. Good value especially considering how close it is to the centre of York

Very close to the centre of York. Very clean appartment and had everything you would need for a 2 night stay or even longer. Would highly recommend staying here and will be looking at booking for our next trip to York
