How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Not one thing..
Friendly welcome, bed so comfortable, warm clean room, excellent breakfast. Easy close parking. Lovely village. Pub around the corner and guests at the social club. Neighboring local cafe and farm & village shops. Will be booking again

Such a lovely little place to go, the owners where so welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely and had a nice homely feel to it and was extremely clean. The breakfast...wow just wow! everything was cooked fresh and you get a menu when you arrive to pick what you want. We will definatly be back sometime in the the summer :-) and we might see you at the Straw Bear next year. Thank you for great stay for our first wedding anniversary.

When the heating comes on in the night you have about 10 minutes of loud clicking from the radiator, but either turn it off or just wait it out. No issues after the 10 mins.
So, so clean. I'm picking and it easily met my standards. Nice and welcoming room, warm in the cold weather but not too hot, lovely spacious and hot shower, super comfy bed and quiet room. We'll be back.

Tony & Su are lovely and were so accommodating and have a lovely home. The room was really great really clean and well presented. Breakfast was really nice plenty to choose from. I will definitely be going again. Highly recommended.

Hosts were very helpful on arrival, lent me maps, full of useful local info. Room & bathroom spotless. Beautiful walks from front door. Post Office, shop & cafe next door was v helpful.

There was nothing we didn't like.
Wortley Cottage Guest House was an enjoyable place to stay. Tony and Su were quite a pleasure to talk with. Breakfast was great. The surrounding countryside is beautiful. All together, we would highly recommend it.

My partner checked in as I was walking. She told off for going in the wrong entrance after check in and told she was on private property. When I heard of this a when I arrived it made me feel a bit on edge as I have been suffering with stress and extreme social anxiety and hate conflict of any sort even if it hasn't happened directly to me. The village unfortunately has an extremely busy road running through it although the location for the trans pennine way is fabulous.
Great idea to have the option of breakfast delivered to room. Property is right in TPW bridleway. Room was clean with nice extra touches such as chocolates.

We enjoyed our stay . There wasn't anything we didn't like.
The hosts were very friendly and welcoming . We loved the accomodation and the property itself has many interesting features . The cottage is over 200 years old , so has a mix of modern facilities ie, bathroom whilst maintaining a certain charm.

Location was very good and right on the route I was walking, its also spot on route for the Trans Pennie route either walking or cycling. Very good friendly service and the breakfast was very good. A very enjoyable stay.

It was all nice
It was the first time we stayed with a host and was really nice with the hosts very friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and had a lovely big comfortable bed and the breakfast was outstanding. Location was stunning and so peacful, Will stay again.
