Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

GermanyThe kind and familiar atmosphere. The nice and super clean rooms - we had two with balcony and ocean view. The staff were super helpful and friendly. The kids liked the pool a lot and loved to play with the kids from the village.
It was close to a beautiful beach and it was also on the corner of a small fishermen village. The location was quiet and peaceful.

I liked the fact that I could talk to a member of staff before our arrival. I had received a new replacement card and it may have caused problems with payment. I called to assure them that this was the problem and that I will sort it out on arrival. Efua was very understanding. All got sorted out on arrival at Afiki in the evening. We ordered food and drinks, and it was ready in no time. The beach was right on the doorstep of Afiki. Breakfast the following morning was tasty. All staff we encountered were professional and pleasant.

United StatesNothing- I wish we could have stayed longer.
We loved our stay at Afiki. It is a hidden gem in a secluded location about 10 minutes drive from Elmina. The staff at the hotel were amazing and the restaurant offered many delicious options made to order. The beach is the highlight with very few people. It was the ultimate place to relax and unwind without anyone bothering you. The hotel offers activities that you can pay to take part in. We did not do this as we just wanted to relax by the ocean. The hotel room was comfortable and the price was very reasonable. We stayed in the Odopa 1 room and there was an amazing balcony to sit on and listen to the ocean waves right outside your door. If you are visiting the Cape Coast and Elmina castles and don’t want to cram everything into one long day, this is a great overnight stop.

United KingdomThere weren't many travellers around to socialise with, but this isn't something the property can help. As I slept just below the restaurant, there was some noise around 7am from chairs moving which I am guessing was due to cleaning.
Great location, right next to a local authentic village, staff are all very friendly and helpful, good maintenance of the building in general. There is wifi (different ones) but it jumps when you get to a different building or level, so if you want to do a phone call, it's better not to move around too much. At the swimming pool, wifi was not working. In my room, the wifi was too unstable to watch a video (as there weren't many travellers around this time a year). Food comes in big portions and is delicious. There is a cute dog that befriended me easily which was nice as I was on my own. Easy to get a taxi to the main sights in the area like Elmina, Cape Coast, Kakum.

RussiaDon't let your taxi driver trust Google Maps - it will lead you through terribly maintained bush roads. Clearer directions from the hotel would have saved us some hassle. Additionally, there is potential to make the shared spaces a bit cozier and more inviting.
Located right by a beautiful sandy beach. The staff were consistently kind and attentive, the service quality going far beyond what you'd expect from a hotel in this category. Breakfast and dinner at the restaurant were excellent.

South AfricaIt was right next to a settlement which we had to drive through. The area immediately outside the resort was rundown and littered. The area could do with some cleaning to improve curb appeal
Situated on the beach which was clean and fairly private despite being next to a settlement. The hotel was comfortable, sea view room with econ. The pool was the best, large, clean, deep enough. Food was ok, (5/10) chef responsive

EstoniaWe did encounter some challenges due to unexpected issues with the Accra bus, and reached out to the Afiki´s team about our arrival. Unfortunately, the communication wasn't as smooth as we'd hoped, but once we arrived, the team was very welcoming. The Wi-Fi was weak, which helped us disconnect (though it might be important for some), and at times, the hot water wasn’t available. The village and its surroundings were stunning, but unfortunately, they were covered by tons of trash, incl along the coast and in the sea - there were piles of old nets and plastic and etc everywhere, and seems that no one cares just adding new trash and ignoring the sad reality, unfortunately.
We spent a weekend in January to unwind from work in Accra, and truly enjoyed the peace and isolation away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. The food was delicious, and the pineapple-ginger juice was an absolute highlight. The staff were mostly friendly and accommodating, doing their best to keep the place clean and tidy. The location is quite remote, and getting there by public transport can be a bit challenging, but it's certainly manageable, and we were glad to have given it a try. Just be sure to factor this into your plans, as Afiki is definitely worth visiting!

DenmarkNot everything at Afiki met our expectations, though. When we arrived, the place felt eerily empty, no music or lively atmosphere, which was a letdown since we’d hoped for some energy. The pool looked a bit dirty at first, and it wasn’t until the next day that it was cleaned up. Service was limited too; drinks and reception shut down at 9 PM, so late-night needs were out of the question. The room had its quirks: the shower window had a curtain on the outside, which could make bathroom trips awkward (or hilarious) with friends, and the balcony door and windows wouldn’t close properly, letting in drafts. The internet cutting out at 10 PM was another thing we couldn’t figure out. At dinner, our table had some termites, nothing other table couldn't fix, and while the beach was nice, it wasn’t exactly pristine. Getting there was a headache too, Google Maps took us down a awful road, so tell your taxi driver to take the longer, smoother route instead. From the tro-tro junction, it’s a quick taxi ride (we paid 30 GHC, though it felt like a 20 GHC trip), and our driver tried to charge us 200 GHC to Elmina so we decided to take a tro-tro back to Accra for 60 GHC from the close by junction.
We had some genuinely enjoyable moment at Afiki Hostel. The staff member who greeted us was super friendly, setting a warm tone right from the start. The room itself was a pleasant surprise, nice and comfortable, with working AC. By morning, the pool had been cleaned, and we loved spending time there; it turned out to be a great spot to unwind. The beach right in front of the hostel stood out too, it was better than other beaches we’d seen on our trip, making it a real highlight. We ordered tilapia, jollof rice, and tofu, and while it wasn’t mind-blowing, it was decent and hit the spot. Breakfast was good, a not instant coffee option will be great to offer. Overall, the place has a lot of potential, and we could see it being a solid choice for a short stay.

United KingdomBe aware the location is quiet remote. This was perfect for us and the hotel were really helpful in organising transport for us, but for some people this could be a problem.
Absolutely beautiful location and fantastic decoration. Staff couldn't be more helpful and the food was some of the best we had in Ghana. We didn't get a room with a balcony but looking at them afterwards I wish we had. The bar wasn't quiet open when we visited but the building looked beautiful with a great view of the beach. The place will be even better once that opens.

United StatesThere was a slight problem with the air conditioning. Otherwise, everything was excellent.
This is a beautiful and intimate setting with a lovely little beach and ocean view. Situated right on the edge of a little fishing village, we were able to get an authentic look into the lives and culture of the people of this region. The guided tour we took of the village was one of the highlights of our stay. The staff was exceptionally attentive and very kind and helpful. I loved the fact that the staff and services were comprised of people and resources from the local village. The food was very good and plentiful. and served In an open-air dining area with a nice ocean breeze and view of the ocean. The night we arrived, we were treated to a fresh coconut drink from a tree on the property that one of the staff members climbed to pick! I highly recommend this lovely family resort for a quiet, peaceful visit and will definitely stay there again next time I visit Cape Coast.

We had the best days in Afiki! It is a special place that definitely will stay in our hearts! The staff are wonderful and the food outstanding. The rooms are traditionally furnished, spacious and comfortable. The views are amazing, we saw the best sunsets while having dinner on the terrace. Thanks to David and the team that looked after us and also thanks to Timothy who collected us from Accra and took us where we needed to go and showed us around.
