The room was dark and very hot, almost impossible to open windows. No internet in the room, no television. The breakfast should have included for this price. The breakfast for €25,- p.p. (which we took one day) was in a way limited to one cup of coffee and one glass of juice. An extra cup was charged for! We were advised to reserve for dinner, which we did, but later cancelled, because we did not feel up to it. It turned out the restaurant was empty, the whole evening. This is considered a luxery hotel. For the price we paid (€708 for two nights) we expect better.

    A very special building.

The hotel is amazing and beautiful. The staff were super friendly. I had expected they might be a bit snooty because of the type of hotel but they were absolutely not. They took time to chat with us. Little touches such as the footbath at night were greatly appreciated. Great breakfast.

Wonderful, precisely restored property. The rooms are carefully made to resemble the original layout, with authentic materials. It does not feel like a hotel, but rather a luxurious and tasteful home. The personnel is friendly, relaxed, but also professional. The a la carte breakfast was excellent, the dinner / restaurant serves international cuisine which was good and carefully prepared, but not outstanding. They call it boutique hotel, which would make one think of cheap flashy art and old-turned-hip furniture, but this is not the case, the design is old school and beautiful.

Very little. The unfortunately high price is justified by the circumstances - historical protected building on lease from Egyptian government. The management is NOT making a huge profit here!

Every guest is treated as special and important. Breakfast first rate and little treats provided with coffee etc. This is a unique historical building offering special experiences - the hamam bath is a must. For the romantic the possibility of being served candlelit dinners in wonderful courtyards a deux is also special. They are proud of the building and its history and taking the short tour is recommennded.

NO disadvantages. Should not be regarded as a place for rest with small children. Not for a vacation on the beach, shopping - great for local products.

Historical place welcomes you as a home, offering maximum of comfort and beauty. Many good people on reception who give real hints, helpful and really pleasant to deal with. The place should not be regarded as a classic 5* hotel. It is an experience of living in a historical place, a castle and a church. Luxury yes, but it's more a kind of intelligent luxury. It's not exactly an hotel, it's an old and partly ancient building. Perfect location, great city of Kavala and Thasos island + Philippes nearby. Great opportunity to chill out (many bars etc), cultural and historical experience, enjoying a city on the seashore. Very quiet inside. Atmosphere is really great.

The only thing which could've been better was the weather! It seems we brought the English weather with us! But this was only on our first day and the sun came out eventually - we even got a tan - in April!

The staff were extremely helpful, the service was always with a smile, the food was excellent and the Manager made sure that our stay was as comfortable and relaxing as possible. The Hotel is set in an absolutely beautiful setting, with a long Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman history, and the architecture reflects these influences. It is no surprise that the architecture is very interesting - you could walk for hours in beautiful gardens marvelling at the beautiful history contained within the walls. Fortunately, the Hotel provided us with a very knowledgeable guide who spoke excellent English (among other languages) who gave us a great tour of the many courtyards, fountains, rooms and features. The guide revealed the many secrets which we wondered about during our stay. For example, I woke up one morning and lay in bed admiring the hand-hammered marks in a metal bar spanning our room. I could tell it was old but couldn't tell how old. It was revealed to us that this an original Roman feature! This is just one example I am giving in this review - there are literally thousands such features in Imaret. Where else could you find an original Roman antiquity showing the actual marks made by the hammersmith thousands of years ago? A museum, that's where. But this was above our bed in the bedroom! Another example of the interesting features of this Hotel was the various inscriptions written into the marble which was written in many languages and shows just how many cultures and civilsations passed through this amazing place and left their mark. The whole place is a monument to history and a credit to the people who took on this ambitious project to bring this place to life and maintain it so we can enjoy it. It is a feast for the senses and a very interesting place to stay. We really felt that we were walking back in time, each step was a step into the past with original features surrounding us every step of the way.

When I booked the room I had opted for a breakfast of 15 euros each. At table we were given a menu with different prices which was rather confusing and we ended up paying much more. Imaret has been a great experience and it is a pity that we could not afford to spend more time there.

I liked the marvelous atmosphere, the care given to every simple detail, the respect of the religious background of the place creating a spiritual oasis, the magnificent views, the affinity of the decoration..

The kitchen in the restaurant tries to make an impression of contemporary, but you can find something better in downtown. The breakfast doesn't worth visiting. The bar has awful drinks but perfect view.

The spirit of the place. In fact it's very complicated to make a luxury hotel in a historical building. There are almost no such places in Greece. Here they were successful. The management knows how the 5-star hotel runs: there should be not many mistakes in services.
