How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Verified reviewFood options and quality was good and staff were very friendly (we were upgraded for free). The view is also amazing.
Pool didn’t open until 10AM and guests put towels on sun beds very early to save them. The hotel doesn’t feel like a 4-star hotel, it was more like a 2/3-Star.

Verified reviewA quiet location a couple of miles from the main town Elounda, the breakfast was fabulous, and varied with choices of full English, Mediterranean or Greek, the staff were helpful and friendly without exception. Great views over Elounda and Spinalonga Islands. There is also a small gym, bar and pool table, which we didn't make use of but good to know we could if we wanted.
The pool was a bit cold but once in, it was lovely, clean and not crowded. But then this was October! We would have liked a balcony in the sunshine, and if we stay again, we would specifically ask for a balcony that is sunny in the evenings after a long day at the beach. The pool does look bigger in the advertised pictures than in real life, it's probably about 18 metres long but plenty big enough.

It was easy to get around as we had a car and got to easily pop into Elounda centre for dinner and supplies as well as the trip to Spinalonga. Staff were also very friendly and helpful

Verified reviewThe staff is INCREDIBLE. So sweet, caring, they are helpful, speak excellent English, always in a good mood and will do everything to make you feel comfortable and well taken care of. Breakfast is great with lots of (fresh) options. Waiters are also sweet, attentive, fast. The view is wonderful, the bar is good. Can't complain about a thing
I had probably the one existing room that had only partial view of the ocean, which was a bit of a shame, but so pretty anyway and it was a short walk to the common area with a breathtaking view. The floors in the bathroom can get very slippery after showering - be careful not to fall.

Verified reviewBreakfast and the pool area were the best part of our stay. The room was also comfortable, spacious and clean.
We were given two twin beds joined together as they were fully booked (our preference didn't matter). The gym was NOT a gym. It was some old equipment in a dark hot room. The staff were friendly but didn't go out of their way to help, share any tips or support us to understand the area. There is 1 shop close by but it has strange opening hours and everything else was about a 30 minute walk. We felt isolated without a car, especially for dinners as the hotel menu isn't that exciting. For the price, we were expecting more of the whole experience.

I am sorry for the twin beds that we initially offered; we try to fulfill all our guests’ requests but sometimes that is not always possible. However, as I recall in your case, we changed your twins’ beds to a double bed from day one. I was also very surprised from your comments about our staff, since all our guests’ comments on all platforms state that the staff at the Elounda Ilion Hotel work really hard, always have a smile on their faces, and will do everything to make sure they feel comfortable and well taken care of. Which is something that I strongly believe and support. I have taken into consideration your comments about our mini gym and have shared these with my colleagues.
