How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewThe lady with the long hair who welcomed us upon arrival was exceptional & very professional. She gave the right instructions on where to go and what to do in the area. The location was nice and quiet, away from the centre of Monemvasia. It was walking distant from the beach of Ambelakia, which is a nice organised beach. The wind is an issue there, but there are other nice beaches about 30 minutes away by car. We also liked the big balcony!
The room was a little bit small and the furniture need a refurbishment.

Outdated and broken shower. Not able to open the wardrobe due to front door gas strut hitting it.

Verified reviewCheap and cheerful hotel. The staff were lovely, and breakfast was good. (I particularly liked the freshly-made waffles!) Close to the small beach and one very nice taverna. About 5 kilometres from Monemvasia harbour area with all its bars and tavernas.
Having stayed there before, we knew it was worth paying extra for a sea view, but were disappointed to see that there is now a large building site between the hotel and the sea, which spoils the view, particularly at night when 2 very bright lights blot out the view of Monemvasia rock.

Verified reviewStaff were great and there was good parking available. Breakfast was good. There was a variety of fresh fruit, yogurt, waffle, bread, and drinks. It was close to the beach.
There were some bugs that got in and we got some mosquito bites while sleeping.

Verified reviewRight next to the beach this affordable comfortable little hotel has excellent breakfasts and is great value for money.
There’s building work on the next plot but it really didn’t spoil our stay.

Not having enough filtered drinking water was a disappointment. As tap water not reccommended to drink, room bottled water should have been provided.

Verified reviewHaving run my own hotel in the past and worked in tourism for 15 years; I know what to expect relative to price. This is the kind of small budget friendly hotel I prefer to stay in. The hotel is modern and stylish. Too many hotels lack the local character. The Iris does Greek style wonderfully. I love the blue accents on the bedroom walls and fittings. Staff have been accommodating and friendly. The optional breakfast was really what I wanted with unlimited coffee and tea all day if required.
The only small criticism was the sound of the plumbing from the adjoining room.

Verified reviewit‘s near to Nomenvasia. People are kind.
Hotel and rooms are old and haven‘t been renewed for a long time. Right in front of the hotel on the seaside the construction of new houses causes typical noise starting in the morning on working days

We understand the construction noise nearby may have caused some inconvenience, and we truly apologize for that. We appreciate your comments and are always working to improve our facilities and services. We're also glad you noted the kindness of our staff and our location close to Monemvasia. Verified reviewWe had a room with a great view of the water and back to Monemvasia. The hotel is a 10 minute drive to the causeway and only a 1 minute walk to Ambelakia beach which is one of the best in the region. While the hotel may appear to need a little updating, the rooms are well maintained, quiet and clean, the staff are very helpful and breakfast is excellent. Good off street parking.

Verified reviewAC worked well. There was parking. I liked the toiletries provided (honey soap and shampoo)
Expensive for what it was. Over 100 euros but no drinking water and no breakfast provided. Deceptive from the photos, the hotel is separated from the beach by an empty field with ongoing construction. We didn't feel like we were in a "beach hotel". The view we had wasn't great.

Verified reviewNice location walking distance to a good organized beach. Clean hotel and breakfast had many options. There was a fridge in the room, and the AC in the room worked well.
The hotel advertises itself to have many extras that it no longer provides- like laundry and ironing service is no longer available, or beach bags with beach towels. The breakfast area was too hot to sit outside due to insufficient awnings and no fans. No food beyond breakfast was available, even for purchase.
