How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Verified reviewThe apartment was perfect very comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. The weather was fantastic so the air conditioning was a great bonus. The host family were super friendly and contacted us during our stay to ensure all was OK. Cavtat is a beautiful place to stay.

Verified reviewLovely compact flat with a lovely view of the Adriatic from the balcony. The flat was clean, very tidy and ideal for our 3 night stay in Cavtat (which is a beautiful little harbour village) Antonio the host met us with the keys, easy to communicate with prior to arrival and gave us lots of useful local info to make our stay a joy here. We chose here deliberately to be close to the city of Dubrovnik knowing it was easy to get there by the shuttle boat from the harbour (€35 return for 2) also having done our research on Cavtat via YouTube. The resteraunts in town offered some of the best food weve ever had in Europe and no hard sales techniques to lure you in, browse the menus before you chose your choice of resteraunt 👌
Only a couple minor quibbles with the flat. The sink is awkwardly placed, it’s like washing up around the corner and the shower cubicle is tiny so easy to turn off or alter the temp of the water either with your butt whilst your lathering up, otherwise perfect. Another small issue is the cut- off exposed plumbing pipes coming up through the floor in a couple of places presumably for future radiators, they are covered but be carful. Possibly a new build with other things to be added in the future? Location is a fierce walk up a steep hill from town, so location of flat is suitable for able bodied people with 3 flights of steps up to the flat itself.

Too many mosquitos. Could not sleep well due to mosquitos hovering over our ears and biting. Kind of defeated our purpose of taking rest for the night before catching a long flight. A net or fan would have helped. Also Antonio charging €20 for the airport seemed too much when Uber was charging around €12. Since we gave Antonio our words we stuck with his ride.

Verified reviewBeautiful apartment with large doors that open to a magnificent view of the ocean. There is a supermarket approx. 5 minute walk away. Regular bus service (no 10) every 30 minutes down to the town and back again.
The shower is a little small and a washing machine or access to laundry facilities would be beneficial. There are 5 flights of steps up to the apartment.
