(Diving-) Staff, food and atmosphere were great!

The lights next to the road to the cottages should be repaired.

    The Food, The people, everything

Maybe the owner could buy some new diving Equipment. I went diving at another resort shortly after, and notices that the air-west of the happy-gecko are a bit hard to manage, you have to really correct it quite a lot in order to float nicely in the water. Its not really important, just as a suggestion :))

    Property response:

Thanks so much for your review! We're happy to hear you enjoyed the food, the people, and your time with us. About the air vests: different brands of BCDs and inflators can have a slightly different feel in the water, and it takes a few dives to get used to how each one responds. Buoyancy control can feel a bit tricky at first, but it gets easier with practice. Every diver develops their own preferences as they gain experience. It’s all part of the learning curve, and it sounds like you're already getting the hang of it. Great to hear you kept diving after completing your PADI Open Water course with us! Thanks again for the feedback, and we hope to see you back at Happy Gecko sometime.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Happy Gecko. The staff was super friendly, the food was some of the best we had during all our time in Indonesia and the diving and snorkeling equipment was in top shape. We did a discovery dive for the first time there and felt very comfortable and safe with the dive guides and the reef and underwater world in Bunaken is unparalleled.

Willke and Jerry were the best hosts and run their family business with the utmost pride and attention to detail. The full board food was so good, made with love, and was fresh and the most tasty we have had in Suluwasei. A great romantic spot or family holiday. Accomodation was clean and comfortable with lovely views out over the lagoon. I completed my Advanced PADI dive cert here and the instructor was great fun and very reassuring. Largest turtles I’ve ever seen gliding around your and beautiful Eagle Rays. Much cheaper and easier to complete here than at home, with the coral reef on your doorstep. The location was pretty ideal as it’s out of the town centre but still very close, providing a quiet nights sleep and privacy. Nothing was an issue and they accommodated any requests including sourcing a specific beer from the mainland! We look forward to returning and wish them well in their business - highly recommended!

Views, staff and owners, diving, boat trips, snorkelling, swimming in the lagoon, turtles and the cute geckos.

Good and plentiful Indonesian food including lots of sambal and real coffee! Great views of the bay. Good communication from the owner and staff. If you are going to dive then it’s also good to know the dive masters are experienced and professional - equipment is good quality and in good condition. Very chilled diving experience all round with lots to see.

Amazingly quiet and tucked away in the heart of the most bio-active lagoons that I'd ever had the privilege of visiting. We thoroughly enjoyed the dives with Jimmy, our guide, and the incredible snorkeling that was just 150m away (no current and totally swim-able). Spacious, clean villas. The common area was homely yet it boasts picturesque views to the lagoon and a small mangrove outcrop. Food's great, we were treated to local dishes, usually a fish + veggie + fruit platter for lunch & dinner, while there's a good set of options for breakfast (pancakes; toast; nasi goreng; mee goreng). One thing I truly appreciated was how easy it was to communicate with the hosts, who arranged our dives and transfers professionally and patiently. Everything was a breeze.

    Nothing to complain of.

This is a wonderful find, it is run on European lines as the hostess is Dutch and caters to western tastes. The staff are very knowledgeable about the sea life in the area. You can snorkel directly from the beach to the reef for wonderful coral, fish and turtles. The rooms are spacious with great sea views, you have accept there is no ac but the fans work well. Far fewer biting insects than we expected. There is a fridge full of cold drinks and beer available to buy. The hosts were very warm and welcoming. They helped us with travel arrangements and gave recommendations for when we were back in Manado.

The steps up to the bungalows are steep, although the staff take your cases up and down for you. You need a torch to help you when the sun goes down. If you have dietary requirements I would suggest contacting the property in advance as there is no menu choice - only one lovely fish/meat dish is served at both lunch and dinner.

Nice and helpful staff, very good food at all 3 daily meals, nice beach to swim and snorkeling at the reef, quiet place. Excellent diving and snorkeling tours.

We knew when making the reservation that there was no AC but for us it was a bit to warm to sleep with only the fan

Amazing location by the beach and the absolutely stunning reef so close. The food was fantastic, we had 21 meals in total here over a week and not one of them was bad or anything to complain about, it was delicious. The staff were all so good at their jobs. I read a strange comment previously that the owner was a money grabber- this absolutely was not the case at all, Willeke was so nice and helpful, very laid back and no pressure to do their trips (although I would highly recommend)- this negative feedback I read previously was completely wrong on this subject. Overall it was a great experience and I can't wait to return.

The people at happy Gecko is AMAZING. Starting from the staff in the kitchen who prepare amazing food everyday to the owners who really do everything they can to help you as a guest. Special thanks to the Dive-guys on the boat and our guide Jimmy, for beeing extra patient and taking us on long and amazing dives. And showing us all the cool critters in the wall. We loved it!

Good food and we loved going snorkelling with the diveboat for just 5 euros per person. The corals are still healthy and there is many little fish around. We enjoyed our stay and felt very welcome!

The place was so peaceful, and the house reef a 10 minute swim away. Good coral and lots of fish. It was so nice that divers and snorkelling were with the same boat. Food is good. It is not spicy, but there is delicious sambal to add if you like. There is a fridge full of cold Bintang and soft drinks. Things are well organised, and Willeke is great and kind host. We had a wonderful time PS. We read that the beach could be polluted with rubbish. But is our travels we have seen that this can happen at any beach if the current is in that direction. When we were the beach was clean

The bed is a bit hard but that is so often in asia
