Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Nothing to complain about!
Such an affordable place but with amazing service! The rooms are simple but super clean, and the hostel is well-organized. We booked the Ijen tour through them, and it was smooth and totally worth it. The staff even sent us recommendations for local food and places to visit before we arrived, which was a really nice touch!

The shower could be a bit cleaner.

The room had some gaps in the blinds/curtains so didn’t always feel like we had the most privacy

The only thing that could be improved is the consistency in their responsiveness online. I tried messaging ahead to confirm a few details, but didn’t get a reply until the day I checked in
I had a really memorable stay at this hostel, thanks in large part to the warm and genuinely helpful staff. From the moment I arrived, I felt like more than just a guest they took the time to explain everything, gave me a map, and even recommended a local food stall I ended up loving.

Very responsive and helpful staff. I messaged them before arriving, trying to arrange transportation and potential tours. They were quick to help and offer options. Room was simple and large. Cute communal space on first floor. Nice area, very green.

Staff is absolutely lovely. They helped me to organize mount ijen tour and the transfer to Bali. There is curtains on the bed, and the mattress is comfortable. They also give you a towel. And there is a small kitchen where you can cook

Simple but comfortable design. Well maintained.
Octa and Ewan were so professional and friendly to each guest. With all the staff’s help, we arranged our visit to IJen and later trips with great ease. Facilities are basic but we don’t need more.

single curtain does not fully cover bed sides, cold shower only, and the weather is quite cold, dorm soundproof is so so, you can hear outside quite well, the sockets on my bed is awkwardly facing outside, no place outdoor to hang dry clothes yet.
Ewan and other staff made a great impression on the place, I really like the spacious dorm, kitchen, water dispenser, large front office area. All is nice, clean. I already stayed at another hostel managed by zzZ and it was also really convenient, the nice management from them made these places become my go-to.

I was only supposed to stay one night but ended up extending because I loved the vibe so much. It was the kind of place that just made you slow down and enjoy — something that’s harder to find than it should be.

My big problem was that there was always too much light in the room, so I had a bit if trouble sleeping. It would be good to get some good blindings so the room can be darker at night
It was very cute, with nice spaces to relax. The staff was very nice and helpful and kept the place super clean and tidy

This hostel had the perfect balance of chill and social. The layout encouraged conversation—cozy couches, several tables, and I ended up cooking with another guest! It was so fan to meet people from 5 different countries in one evening. Truly a special atmosphere.

Dorms are basic and a bit loud because it was filled with 10 people
Every wall, corner, and common space is covered in vibrant art and handmade furniture—it felt more like an art gallery than a hostel. It was super photogenic and definitely the most unique place I’ve stayed so far.

It’s not a party place, and that was perfect for me. I wanted to recharge after a week of moving around. The kitchen is small but spotless, and I appreciated the free tea and coffee corner. There’s even a little book exchange and board games for those staying in.

supermarket is a bit far away but you can order online delivery.
The receptionist Octa is a great personality, she made my day. Very quite place for short nap and do the ijen tour. The bed is so comfortable and the shower are clean.

Sadly only 1 night
Only stayed 1 night due to schedule, but wow — what a sweet setup. Garden area was super relaxing, and Ara checked in with us via WhatsApp before arrival. Great value for what you get. Left at 1 AM for the Ijen-Bromo tour and everything went perfectly
