How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewWow, what an amazing place to stay! Firstly, the views outside are stunning, the hotel is clean and has such a homey vibe. The food is great, location perfect, the pool is lovely. But what really makes this place stand out as one of the best places I have ever stayed, is the staff. The staff here are so kind and friendly and are genuinely so happy to help with whatever you need. We got laundry done, a scooter, jet ski- all of this brought to the door (or the lake) and organised by the hotel staff. They even have a little ice cream machine and cold filtered water tanks free to use on every floor, and provide umbrellas when it rains. I would love to stay here again. We received way better treatment here than any big 5* hotel. Getting to lie on the deck chairs looking at the views, and taking a swim in the lake are some of my best memories now, can't recommend enough!
The water pressure in the shower could be better and hot water lasts about 5-10 minutes. Not enough of an issue to stop me going back though!

Verified reviewGreat location with a nice view from the 4th floor balcony room. Staff super friendly and were great with the kids. Decent pool and my boys used the free canoe and fishing rods so kept them entertained for ages! Massage was amazing outside near the pool. Better than at Tabo next door - We tried both. Food was decent but plenty of options near the hotel. Decent Pina Colada and plenty of free prawn crackers brought to you if you are round the pool at certain times in the day.
Rooms can be a little noisy as walls seem to be thin but didn’t really disturb us. Breakfast was a little disappointing when less than 8 guests stay as it becomes fixed menu so wasn’t amazing.

Verified reviewI liked Zoe’s from the moment I got off the ferry right at the hotels dock. The staff were fabulous, the rooms comfortable and clean, the breakfast had plenty of choice, the location was perfect for swimming, chilling out by the pool and walking to nearby restaurants. They even have an in-house massage service which I can highly recommend. We hired scooters from the hotel for a couple of days and that was fun. Micheal the Manager was charming and so so welcoming- I hope I get to return to this little slice of paradise one day- it stole my heart.

Verified reviewIt was a difficult hotel to evaluate, not because of the hotel, but because of the expectations. I thought that the island of Samosir was a paradise, with lots of nature. The island of Samosir is not what I thought. It is already very touristy, inhabited and/or cultivated along the entire coast. The quality of the water for swimming can be questionable. If you leave the hotel you will not be in the middle of nature, but inside a large, scattered town. On foot you can only go to restaurants. The hotel offers transfer and tour services, massages and others. I took a tuktuk ride on a very bad beach. Dirty water, dirty bathroom. I did not stay on the beach. The good tour was "Traces of your ancestors/proud to be Batak". I went to a viewpoint in the mountains, an open-air museum with Batak houses and royal tombs and hot sulfurous hot springs. Price equivalent to 80 US dollars. Expensive but worth it, unlike the beach in the tuktuk. You have to insist with the driver where you want to go. As for the hotel, the location is already described and makes you dependent on the hotel for all activities. The room is large and the mattress is good. There is no air conditioning, they use a fan. Luckily the region is not very hot as is normal in Sumatra. They justify this by saying that they are committed to the environment and that air conditioning accumulates bacteria. I stayed for 4 days and the fan solved the problem in 3 days. One day I slept badly due to the heat. The fact is that fans save energy and this policy of not using air conditioning is questionable Attentive staff. The transfer from Medan worked well and they follow everything via WhatsApp. Delicious breakfast. The care taken in preparing the food and the artisanal method stand out the most. After all, making bruschetta with pesto sauce, chia pudding with pitaya, sandwiches and homemade natural yogurt takes time and care.
Dear Jose Francisco, Thank you for your detailed and honest review of your experience during your stay with us on Samosir Island. We truly appreciate the time and effort you took to provide constructive feedback—both about our hotel and your general impression of the island. Regarding Expectations and Samosir Island We understand that expectations play a significant role in shaping travel experiences. Samosir Island has indeed seen development in recent years, and while our property is located in a peaceful area far from the hustle and bustle of large cities, we acknowledge that much of the area around the lake is now inhabited and experiencing a rise in tourism activity. For some guests, this may be surprising if they are expecting a completely remote and untouched natural environment. On the Environment and Tour Activities We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced during the tuktuk tour. We will follow up with our local tour partners to ensure that cleanliness and the overall quality of the tourist destinations are maintained. We also appreciate your positive feedback on the "Traces of Your Ancestors / Proud to be Batak" tour. We are glad you enjoyed it and felt that it was worth the price. Hotel Facilities (Air Conditioning and Fan) Our policy of not using air conditioning stems from our commitment to environmental sustainability, as Samosir has a relatively mild climate compared to other parts of Sumatra. We also use air filters and ensure that room ventilation remains healthy and comfortable. Nevertheless, we fully understand that guest comfort is a top priority. Your input will certainly be taken into consideration as we evaluate our policies in the future. Service and Food We are delighted to hear that you were pleased with our staff’s service and the quality of the food we serve. Our kitchen is dedicated to providing healthy, fresh meals prepared using artisanal methods. Your comments about breakfast are especially motivating for our culinary team, and encourage us to continue maintaining both quality and creativity in our dishes. Closing Remarks We sincerely appreciate your openness in sharing both the positive aspects and the areas where you feel improvements can be made. Reviews like yours help us grow and provide a better experience for future guests. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back someday with an even more satisfying stay. Dear Yatri, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We sincerely apologize that our menu did not meet your expectations regarding vegetarian and vegan options.
