I'm afraid the bed in an otherwise comfortable room was too hard. Hard enough to find it difficult to sleep. Also the shower was not easy to control. The slighest touch made it run too hot or cold. And the drain was blocked enough for the water stay up to your ankles for a good while after the shower was turned off. Last but by no means least the barfood was disappointing. My wife had a burger that was dry and overcooked. There was brie cheese with it which was rock hard. To their credit we were not charged for her dinner. She just did not eat it. Finally the most disappointing thing for me was that there were zero options for vegetarians on the menu. Nothing at all. As a long time vegetarian I expected that type of menu perhaps twenty or thirty years ago but not in this day and age. The lad that served us did get the chef to do a veggie curry for me but to have no choices at all on the menu is not good enough. Especially I must say as paradoxically there was a brilliant vegetarian option on the breakfast menu the next morning. Overall a very nice stay but definitely must pick up on the above points.

Staff were excellent. Friendly, helpful and more than willing to share their knowledge of the area. Super ambassadors for Dungarvan. Also very attentive to the needs of cyclists such as us doing the greenway. Indoor storage for the bikes was great to have. Really felt well looked after.

The sealing on the windows in room 303 was very loose as the wind was rattling the window frame all night long. Not exactly worth 127euros either.

Very friendly staff. Good breakfast with big portions. Location right in the middle of Dungarvan.

A Chilly Saga at Lawlors Hotel: Warm Hearts, Cold Toes

During my stay at the hotel, the most significant discomfort I encountered was the unwelcome chill of my room, a persistent issue that seemed resistant to all attempts at resolution. Despite the hotel's overall pleasant ambiance and cleanliness, the coldness of the room was a stark contrast to the warmth expected from such an establishment. Repeated calls to the night porter, seeking a solution to the Arctic-like conditions, resulted in a series of empty promises. Each assurance that the heating would be addressed was met with no tangible improvement, leaving me to contend with a cold that was both physical and metaphorical, given the lack of effective action. This ongoing issue, compounded by the anticipation of a resolution that never materialised, significantly marred my experience. The gesture of a compensatory voucher, while appreciated, did little to mitigate the immediate discomfort of my stay, leading to a reluctance to revisit what could otherwise be a charming hotel. The enduring memory of shivering through what should have been a comfortable and restful night casts a long shadow over the many positives the hotel might offer.

My recent business jaunt to Lawlors Hotel was a tale of two temperatures: the warmth of hospitality versus the chill of the Arctic expedition, also known as my room. Nestled in the heart of convenience, Lawlors offered a pleasant and spotless sanctuary for the weary business traveller, albeit with an unexpected twist on the traditional hotel experience. Upon entering my room, I was greeted by a blast of cold air that would have made a penguin shiver. It was as though I had inadvertently stumbled into a portal leading directly to the North Pole. The temperature setting seemed to be permanently stuck on "Eternal Winter," prompting me to forge what can only be described as a burgeoning friendship with the night porter. Our frequent conversations, primarily me pleading for a reprieve from the icy grip enveloping my room, became a nightly ritual. Despite his valiant efforts and promises of warmth, my room remained a candidate for hosting the next ice age. This camaraderie with the night staff, while heartwarming, did little to thaw my frostbitten plight. In a twist of irony, the ensuite emerged as a tropical oasis in comparison to the main quarters, leading me to consider relocating my bed beside the shower for a semblance of warmth. Upon voicing my icy ordeal to the duty manager the following day, I was met with sincere apologies and the promise of a voucher for a future stay, a gesture as warm as my room was cold. This voucher, I was assured, would pave the way for a return visit under more temperate conditions. As of this writing, the voucher appears to be navigating its way to me, presumably entrusted to a carrier pigeon with an affinity for scenic routes. My stay at Lawlors Hotel was memorable, marked by pristine cleanliness, exceptional service, and an unexpected journey through sub-zero living conditions.
