Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

The online reviews don’t do it justice. The room itself was filthy—one pillowcase had bloodstains, the other had yellow stains. The curtain rod had been pulled from the wall and left in the corner behind the door. Under the bed frames, we found dust, old clothes, and trash from previous guests. We didn’t expect much. We did the usual checks for needles and slept with our clothes on. We only needed the room for one night, but we doubt it will be cleaned even after our stay.
I booked this room due to its location. It’s had a bed for one night and a shower. Bare minimum.

Key app worked occasionally, no staff in the building at all, shower door was broken. Stains on the walls, carpet and towels.

Not clean, not well maintained broken/damaged furniture, shower broken, rusted brackets in bathroom, smoke detector on floor. A kettle in room but nothing else no cups, milk, etc

The door in the shower was broken, and the shower wasn't working properly. Rubbish in drawers. Stains on bed frame. More pillows as they're quiet flat

The room wasn't clean, the bathroom wasn't clean with a horribly dirty toilet, everything had a funky musk to it. The carpet flooring looked like it had several burn marks in it. Both shower doors came off the shower when I tried to close them and no hot water for two days. There was no electric kettle despite advertising one. No contact with staff,no responses to complaints. The pub is extremely loud so no sleep was possible and the fire alarms went off at about 2am. No one stay here please. Trust me.
The location was fab. Very central and a short walk from everywhere interesting.

The room was mouldy, big stain and dip in the ceiling where water has previously leaked through and damaged the ceiling….used tissue in a drawer….dirty underwear left at the bottom of one of the beds from someone staying there before us

There was a toenail on the floor , an alcohol bottle for previous people on radiator , we had to ask for toilet roll as was none in the room . There was two towels for 4 people we asked for me , All though we were allowed in our room before check in time we were not told the water was turned off because fitting a shower in the room Across so couldn’t flush the toilet till shower was installed

Didn’t get email for key but staff picked up phone when I called to resolve. After finally getting room, only 1 twin bed in room. Had booked room with 2 twin beds. Staff friendly resolving room issue but took us 1 hour to finalize everything.
