Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

IndiaThe Wifi is a little janky in some of the rooms. Also, not the deluxe rooms are made the same. Only the ones on the upper floor offer a nice view. The lower floors, though they have a nice outside sitting area, aren't great for views.
Beautiful heritage property, nicely maintained. Charming colonial wooden structure. The staff is truly exceptional. Mr Suraj Subba, the Food and beverages manager suggested the best meals according to my preferences, even going so far as to personally preparing delicious dishes off the menu. Overall the food was really good, from the Santosh Rai chicken curry to the thukpas, or the complimentary breakfasts. Mr Ravindra, the manager was helpful and friendly. So were the receptionists and all the staff honestly. When i requested them to change my room, to one with a better view of Kanchenjunga, they happily obliged. Highly recommended for a quiet, peaceful stay, away from all the noise.

United KingdomThe darkness in the room and the fact you had to play detective to find out which switch turned off which light. The weather was poor but that was bad timing on my behalf. The hotel was covered in cloud for three of my four days there. However, this made the day of bright sunshine a complete revelation. You can catch a view of Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world, which is 75 km away and straddles the Nepal-Indian border. The hotel doesn’t serve alcohol. There is a bottle store about a kilometre up the road.
Cochrane Place is set upon a ridge with stunning views over both sides. The property is a little dark, given the wooden panelling everywhere and paucity of lighting. However this just adds to the little surprises one keeps finding in this Jewell of a residence. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was lovely with offerings of Indian, Chinese and Western-style dishes. The room itself was enormous with satellite TV and a lovely shower room. I had a small balcony with stunning views. There is a lovely lounge on the first floor if you just want to sit and relax in a history laden room with comfortable leather chairs. The restaurant has a large terrace so you can have your breakfast outside in the morning, weather willing.

IndiaBuffet breakfast was only average. We preferred when we could choose our options from the breakfast menu on days with less guests. Cleanliness of the restaurant (tables and floors) needs to be improved.
Cochrane Place is a heritage mansion on the outskirts of Kurseong, set among hills and tea plantations. On clear days, we could enjoy the view of Kanchengjunga from our balcony. Despite the road linking the airport and Kurseong, it is relatively quiet. The area offers multiple trekking opportunities, and the staff will gladly assist you in providing a knowledgeable guide or arranging a visit of one of the nearby tea plantations. Dinner and high tea (huge selection of teas avalailable!) in the property's restaurant was always good. Guests can choose from a variety of Indian, Tandoori, Chinese and Continental dishes.

IndiaCochrane place is located a little away from the town centre which is perfect since it is quiet. Has some great views from their terrace and good food to go along with it. The staff working there are the highlight and are genuinely very warm, courteous and helpful.

IndiaSince it's away from the town, you are dependent on the hotel for food and other services. It might become a bit restrictive if you are staying for more than couple of days. We stayed for a night and it wasn't a bother.
Cochrane Place is steeped in history and is an experience in itself. There is an eclectic display of antiques. It's located away from the Kurseong town, in the midst of tea gardens, providing some breathtaking views of sunrise and sunset. The staff are courteous and helpful. It's very easy to strike a conversation with them and learn more about the local ways. The restaurant has an elaborate menu - including some local fare. In summary, it's the perfect place to stay in Kurseong, if you are looking to spend few calm, relaxed days.

IndiaThe service could be a bit better. Though the staff are really friendly, they need to be a bit more attentive to the needs of the guests. Example, nobody would pay attention to clearing the plates at our dining table in the restaurant, leading to the dishes and plates getting piled up at the table. Similarly, the dinner plates & dishes from the room were not cleared till the time of checkout the next day. These are minor issue that can be looked into.
Though it’s a very old heritage property, it’s maintained well.

IndiaThe place looks gloomy, some areas need attention to cleanliness and maintenance. Breakfast and liquor needs more options.
Breakfast was limited and should had more options otherwise quite good. We stayed in a family room which was quite large, including the washroom. Nice, rustic architecture and interiors. Whatever food we ordered was great.

IndiaWe went back to Cochrane Place because we had liked it a lot in 2019. However, due to the pandemic (maybe) the place looks a bit run down. The floors are creaky and the one we stayed in was extremely musty and had a very strong odour. It also seems a bit expensive for the price they charge now, given the facilities. The food served was stale in two cases (in fact it was smelling and hence had to be sent back) Such a service isn't not acceptable. Also, we had to ask at the reception for a lot of things, while that isn't a problem as such, for the price that they charge, may be this should not have been a case.
The place is quiet, away from the hustle of the town and offers great views. The staff is very friendly, warm and pleasant. They are willing to listen and help you in every way they can.

IndiaThere was just one side table and one chair in a double-occupancy room. A lot of sounds could be heard at night (even the sound of cutlery and of people snoring in the next room). The view from the room was blocked by a pipe.
Loved the view from the balcony, the sunrise and sunset views, and the view of the Kanchenjunga. The food was good too.

IndiaLast visit: March 2021 The place is not worth the price it is available at. Approx 2 km from the city. The place gives feeling of old times (around 30-40 years back). Therefore, i felt as if the carpets placed on the squeaky wooden floor were not cleaned/maintained properly. Not much space to walk within the premise. No bath tub in the washroom which may be due to shortage of water in the area. The view from the place was also not so great. No swimming pool. If you want to enjoy your stay at Kurseong, please choose Alita which is almost in the same price range. It is located at 4-4.5 km from the city centre but had good space and is located in a tea garden with scenic views. All in all not i was disappointed with my stay at the Cochrane Place.
Staff are good. Menu for the Breakfast is short but the items served were tasty.
