Place is located in the middle of nowhere- which is really good when you travel by car (as we did) For this price- place was really-really great. Breakfast, view... view is just crazy...

The shared shower was not up to par. The shower head was broken and was spraying water everywhere. There were thrown bath mats all over the floor outside the shower, probably to try to mitigate all of the water spraying everywhere. Would have been better to book a room that didn't have a shared shower.

Room was cute and clean. View was amazing! Staff was great. Location was a good overnight base for where we were going (the Highlands).

This transformed boarding school still feels like a boarding school. It's also a long 45 kms to lake Myvatn. The thermal pool (not too warm) and a hot tub which ARE NOT included in the price (7 euros).

Views of the lake from the room. Room was Spartan but functional and clean.

Very expensive for what it was, much more expensive than a guesthouse but in the end you have shared bathrooms and exact same room as in a guesthouse but have no access to a kitchen to make your own meal.

Very nice view of the lake, very friendly and helpful staff. No problems with the wifi the other reviews mentioned.

I am tall and getting a bed for tall people in Iceland is rare to find. The bed was not comfortable to sleep in.

They have an okay restaurant at the hotel. Better than nothing. I was so hungry when I came in that they made me toast. That was the best toast ever.

Hotel Edda is a boarding school converted into a hotel during the summer holidays. As such it is not as cosy as a purpose built hotel. The buildings are more modern than the aging ones in Akureyri, however. For a reasonable price it is quite satisfactory but the prices charged are too high.

Storutjarnir means 'The Great Lakes' and is a kind of dry joke as the two lakes nextdoor to the hotel are relatively small. They create a beautiful view, however, from the dining room and the bedrooms on that side of the hotel. The hotel is excellent as an en route overnight accommodation choice because the Godafoss ( 'Falls of the gods' ) waterfall, the Sprengisandur ( 'Bursting Sand' ) mountain trail through the wilds of central Iceland, the Myvatnssveit ( ' Midge Lake District' ) tourist sight, the Krafla ( 'Crawler' ) volcano and the Dettifoss ( 'Tumbling Falls' ) waterfall are all within easy reach.

The directions sucked! Should have mentioned on Ring Road (1) past Godafoss. This is not really a hotel, it serves as a school in the winter so the rooms are actually dorm rooms. In order to have a private bathroom and tv I had to pay another 50% on top of what it already cost me. No kettle in the room and had to pay extra $ to use the pool.

    Good size room

It's a school that is transformed into a hotel during the summer so you can expect little rooms with a sink. We were the last ones to check out for this season so it was already a little hectic and dirty in the toilets as the students were coming . There's a nice restaurant however no kitchenette.

Good location very close to Goddafoss and just 30 minutes far away from Akureyri. The stuff was very nice.

The wifi is only available in the main areas. It would be nice to have access in the individual rooms.

This hotel is a converted school. As such the room is a doorm room (though quite large) and showers / facilities are shared (though clean and roomy). One of the shared lounges overlooked an indoor basketball court which people uaed in the evening. We found it quite fun to be back in the dooms or at sleepaway camp. The facilities are clean and although we did not see anyone using it due to the cold weather there is an outdoor pool as well. We would recommend staying since it was such a unique experience and our stay was pleasant.
