The property looks wonderful- a home away from home. The house was warm and very clean. It had all amenities including a kettle for tea. The bed and pillow were comfortable. Great breakfast with homemade products. The WiFi connection worked very well. The road to the Guesthouse is a gravel one but should not be a problem for the rented cars.

I missed having a small hand towel to use at the sink, but we made due with an extra washcloth.

Hrifunes Guesthouse was our favorite stay in Iceland. It was off the beaten path but the view is gorgeous and the home cooked meals were so lovely. We hope to come back some day soon!

There was nothing we didn't like: the location, guest rooms, and meals were all wonderful.

We had an excellent dinner cooked by the proprietor, Hadda, and breakfast the following morning was wonderful as well. We enjoyed meeting the other guests, and hearing from Harkur, the other proprietor, about the history of the location. The guest room was very quiet, although attached to other rooms on both sides and below, because of the concrete construction. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom spacious, with loads of hot water and water pressure. The view from the room was spectacular.

Not many windows in my room #7, just the front door and a window looking at the dirt hill. I think other rooms had a really lovely view though.

Loved the homemade breakfast and dinner! We loved gathering with the other visitors to get to know them. Wonderful food and environment! Beautiful area with a lovely view of the glacier on a clear day. The geology in the area (mossy lava field) are really interesting.

You do have to drive down a gravel road to get here so make sure to rent an AWD vehicle with good clearance.

I highly recommend having dinner there! The food was amazing and it was fun to chat with fellow travelers at the communal dinner table.

We had a lovely dinner the night we stayed there and have the opportunity to sit at a big table with other guests it was a great moment to exchange stories. However, we expected more from the dinner. We had a lovely meat soup and there was option for a vegetarian soup (cauliflower). The rest of the meal was a buffet but it lacked explanation from the hosts. The soup was worth it and the highlight of the meal.

We loved the location. The cottage was cozy and comfortable.

Towels were a bit coarse.

The location is remote, but beautiful! There is a view of the glacier from the property! It is within a moderate drive to many of Southern Icelands best sites! The dinners are served family style and are delicious and hearty. There were not many lights around and we were blessed with clear skies and northern lights!

This place is a gem. The owner is just so friendly, the dinner and breakfast were fantastic, and you get greeted by a very happy dog when you arrive. The common area has nice seating and is filled with beautiful photographs, old cameras, old sound equipment - it's just a neat neat place to stay. We had a shared bathroom - only two rooms share the bathroom and there is access to an "emergency" bathroom if someone is taking a shower and you need to go.....

If you are doing the ring road counter clockwise this is a good distance stop for the first night. We stayed two nights and liked the meal so much we ate at the guesthouse both evenings.

Very minor adjustments needed like our door wouldn’t lock but nevertheless we felt very safe.

We arrived very late and our hosts kindly gave us much needed food. We stayed for only one night on our road trip but had a very comfortable stay. The breakfast was excellent and the whole place had a warm and cosy feel.

Comfortable room. Excellent evening meal at shared table in the characterful dining room, and good breakfast. Rather remote, peaceful setting yet not far off Ring Road. Saw the Aurora - not the most spectacular, but it was still an experience!

It was perfect. No complaints at all.

We had the most incredible stay. Everything was perfect from the rooms to the beautiful dining area to their wonderful dog, Garpur. Hadda is so welcoming and friendly, she even gave us great tips on what to do the next day! The rooms are extremely clean and have very up-to-date, electronics, furnishings, and decorations. We were very warm with the provided furnace. The view is breathtaking. We especially loved the shower with the river rock tile. Our breakfast was absolutely delicious with homemade bread and fresh homemade blueberry jam. Sadly, we did not have enough time to get there for dinner as we had plans on the other side of town and we are so sad we missed out because it looks absolutely incredible. Hadda is a true chef. We have talked about returning to Iceland just to stay at this hotel and try the dinner and stay a bit longer. The scenery is just gorgeous. It is only about an eight minute drive off of the highway to get there.

The guesthouse felt very welcoming and homey from the start. We only stayed for a night but wish we were there for longer. The rooms were very clean and beautifully kept. When we arrived dinner was being prepared, I wish we hadn’t eaten before because it smelt soo good!
