How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewLovely house with great view, all the amenities you need and peaceful, quiet seclusion. It rained when we were there so we couldn’t make use of the outdoor seating options but the enclosed conservatory was perfect. Loved every moment we spent here!
The handle on the bedroom door needs repair. Very difficult to close and open the door, and impossible to do quietly. Very minor issue that did not diminish the superb quality of our stay. There are a few ways to reach the house and apparently Google maps took us down the worst route which was barely doable in a 4x4. When we left, we opted to go out a different way which was much, much better. If you’re driving to this place and can’t believe the insane potholes covering the entire road, you’re in the worst route and should immediately select one of the alternate routes, even if it appears to be longer. It’s worth the trouble to stay here.

Verified reviewThis is charming, well-equipped and beautifully situated cottage that is super convenient to Hvammsvik Hot Springs and though it seems remote, it is a remarkably easy drive to Keflavík. Well-equipped kitchen for self-catering. Beautiful lake views and wonderful deck and hot tub for relaxing after a day of hiking or traveling.
Not applicable - super responsive hosts and a beautifully maintained cottage.

Verified reviewLoved the view of the lake especially in the front room, very picturesque location. Location was only about 1 hour drive to Reykjavik and other destinations were nearby (lots of gravel roads to get there so ideal to have a 4-wheel drive vehicle). Rental came equipped with a high-end coffee machine which was nice. Hot tub was a little small but functional and was enjoyed. Check-in was simple and easy.
Contruction of the house was not great and raised safety concerns. Bedroom and bathroom doors were difficult to close, and bathroom door did not lock without a lot of effort. Electrical equipment was often connected to plug bars to accommodate non-ideal receptacle placement, and the plug bar running underneath the shower felt particularly unsafe. The walls were all built of interlocking wood boards that were cracking and were not at all soundproof, meaning you could hear someone going to the bathroom clear as day from the bedroom. There's a TV in the living room...conveniently placed behind the door so that if you bump the door it hits into the TV screen. While the large windows were fabulous for views, they had no blinds or curtains so anyone using the sleeper sofa in the living room has to deal with the light coming in from all the windows. It's hard to tell in photos but the bedroom is very small - the bed is pushed against 3 walls with shelves hanging over your head and barely room to stand on the one open side. I appreciate they tried to make the most of the bedroom with a closet and the shelves to store items, but it really feels like this bedroom should hold no more than a twin-size bed to be comfortable. Photos provided are accurate but don't show the bathroom, living room with sleeper sofa, or loft very well if at all. Loft was difficult to access with a steep ladder and a gate that didn't open in an ideal direction, so we didn't really use the space. We're not opposing to staying in more rustic cabins and even did so earlier in our trip. But we felt the other cabins we stayed in were much better built & appropriately sized for a lower cost than this space.

Verified reviewAmazing location. Line a dream place. Google map shows it on left side of the access road while it's on right side. Follow the instructions by host not Google. Glass balcony room is out of this world with heating in it. Very pretty and climbable hill at the back. Nice hot tub. Neighbour house keeps lights on all night that interferes with Northern lights viewing. This is the only negative point

Verified reviewThis is one of the most amazing places I’ve ever stayed in. The house is spacious, comfortable and well-equipped, with panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains from the wraparound windows in the living room. Reclining in the hot tub and enjoying the view was one of the highlights of the trip. Good, clear instructions from the owner on how to get in.
The bedroom door doesn’t close, which was a bit annoying in midsummer as the light streams in.

Verified reviewThe location is beautiful, and the house has everything you need, cozy, but spacious. The kitchen has everything you need, even extra oil, spices, pasta, coffee, in case you miss something. We have not used the gas grill outside though. And the living room has breath taking views, and on top of that, the hut-tub outside.
The internet was working, we watched TV and streaming channels, but cannot connect our Apple products, iPhone, iPad for some reason to the local WiFi (2 networks with 2 similar passwords, tried all combinations, 0 instead of O, 5G, etc.). Hopefully the host fixed it, maybe only a reset was needed. I turned on my data though and I had good cell signal in that remote area, something good to know. :-)

Verified reviewThe views from the property are stunning. We set out to visit the Hvammsvik hot springs and the home is located conveniently close by.
Only complaint were the 15-20 house flies we had to deal with that were buzzing all over the living room windows.

Verified reviewWe have been travelling in Iceland for 3 weeks and have stayed in some outstanding (plus a couple of not quite outstanding) accommodations. The Lake House is by far our favourite. The view from the conservatory and the deck were exceptional. We decided to take a ‘rest day’ here to just enjoy the view, the peace and the hot pot. It was great having access to coffee, herbs and spices left by the owners to use in our meal prep. Access was very easy with the lockbox. The heating was already on for us which was greatly appreciated. Btw I loved the swans in the pond. 😂
I was really surprised to read the negative reviews on booking. Security cameras are to stop vandalism not to check on renters. If someone wanted to watch my husband and I do a naked run to the hot pot I hope they had a good laugh 😂 (we are both in our 70s). The contact with the owners was excellent. The conservatory was a great bonus as we are from Australia which is a hot country. The driveway was fine if you took it slowly. The loft bedroom was only needed if you had 6 people staying so not an issue for most. The furnishings were of a very high standard. I spent quite some time in the comfortable leather recliner in the conservatory. With only two of us a dishwasher was totally unnecessary. Our thanks to the owners for sharing their beautiful property with us.
