How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewOur stay at Hotel Caporal was absolutely lovely. The hotel is just a short 2-3 minutes walk from Minori beach and port and is equipped with all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. The breakfast spread is good as well. But what makes the hotel truly exceptional, is the warm hospitality of the host who made us feel right at home. All in all, if you want a comfortable stay at a good price and a convenient location to the beach, Hotel Caporal is the place for you.
grazieeee ❤️

It’s a bit run down, could use a little tune up in bathroom and rooms.

Verified reviewA perfectly adequate hotel and great for a short stay a very short walk from the best restaurants in Minori Great owner proprietor who has been there all his life ( in fact born in the property early 1940’ ) Room fairly small for a double but perfectly adequate. This hotel has no sea views if that’s your thing but everything including the ferries are close by. I only had one night stay as staying long term in Cetara, but no problems at all. Good quality buffet breakfast included in price.
I must say the shower cubicle in my room anyway was the smallest I think I have ever encountered maybe less than 1 mt square ( not for the big built ) but no worries for me just quite amusing how small it was.

We stayed one night, all was good for a 1 night stay. The shower corner was small, but it worked it's magic anyway.

Verified reviewQuiet, good location for the price. Staff were really nice even though there was a Lagrange barrier.
The address that I copied from book.com took me to the wrong location. Never trust booking.com address. Best that hostel put up GPS coordinate.

Verified reviewVery reasonable price for a good night’s sleep. The helpful manager gave me maps and advice about visiting Ravello and Amalfi. He was very pleasant and joked a lot with Italian-speaking guests. I had a balcony which felt fun. Reasonable breakfast: cappuccino, yogurt, juice, croissant, pastries, fruit, cheese, meat, and corn flakes.
The shower was tiny. The cleaning woman came in my second day while I was eating breakfast instead of once I’d left. I wasn’t expecting that and had personal items out.

Verified reviewThe hospitality shown by the owner Gaspare and Monica was fabulous. They greeted us at check in, every morning at breakfast, and throughout the day. Gaspare gave us directions to restaurants and the Lemon Trail and to Ravello, truly a wonderful host. The Caporal Hotel is a 4 minute walk to the port and city center. Rooms were clean, bed was comfortable...pillows a bit hard. (Typical European style pillow) . Noise level was low between 8 pm to 7 am, once the motorcycles stopped. Breakfast was a wonderful array of pastries, croissants, yogurt, fruits and coffee and teas. We did not go away hungry! Literally, the attentiveness from Gaspare with his friendly demeanor was priceless!
I would like a choice of pillows!

Verified reviewThis is a hotel with its Italian tradition, characters and warm hospitality. The hotel delivered good quality and value for its price in Amalfi, rooms and facility here are fiting it's class and kept super clean for it's age. If you are an experienced traveller to Amalfi, you would know this location is golden: best food and restaurants around, better beach front, a quiet escape from crowded Amalfi after you tired day, nearest charming neighbor town to all main sightseeing points. Here is well connected by the ferry and bus to everywhere. Especially to mention that, the old respectful gentleman - the owner of the hotel, he is the jewel of the entire busienss. Don't want use his real name for the privacy purposes. He and his team are super responsible for every one of his guests. Follow his advises, listen to his words, enjoy his stories, he will bring you the genuine Italy. . Highly recommended!
