How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Steps to property not for the faint hearted in the heat. Tip; take the road up, not the steps from the port and use porters for your luggage, we used the blue porters and they were wonderful

The staff at the bar on the roof were an extra treat! great to talk to and service from all was amazing. The room itself was a treat, bed was very comfortable and breakfast was both delicious and the view was perfect!

Verified reviewWe loved everything about this property! The hotel was immaculate, the staff were very personable and accommodating, the area was convenient to everything. The stairs leading down to the beach are just across the street from the hotel, the hotel breakfast was delicious, the rooftop bar has amazing views and atmosphere! We can’t say enough about how wonderful our few days were in Positano!

Verified reviewWe paid for a mountain view room and what we got was a room with a white wall in front of us with a huge water heater on top of it. The room didn’t have a view at all. We paid $294, very expensive to see a wall. When I complained to the receptionist she very unfriendly told us to pay an extra 50€ for a better view . I don’t recommend this hotel.

The room you booked is a Budget Room, which features an internal courtyard view, as clearly stated in the room description and shown in the photos available at the time of booking. We did offer the possibility of a more panoramic view for a small additional fee. Many guests do choose to pay this supplement for the enhanced experience — which we believe is a fair and transparent way to offer different options to suit different preferences. The overall price range of our property reflects the standards of the destination and includes services such as breakfast, as well as access to communal spaces with scenic views, including the breakfast terrace and solarium, which are open to all guests. We hope that on a future visit, you may choose to indulge in a higher room category for more enjoyable experience. In the meantime, we will continue striving to improve both our communication and the overall guest experience.

The entire stay was unpleasant. On arrival our ‘non sea room’ that was advertised as courtyard/mountain view, was a view of machinery, not just ‘non sea view’ as they kept stating. When discussed with staff we were told there was nothing they could do. Female receptionist was dismissive and rude. Contacted booking.com as felt the booking was not aligned with what was advertised, no roof top terrace and more. Booking.com recommended a refund to the hotel as such a small facility FOH staff were no longer helpful. The hotel refused and eventually offered a room upgrade but by then we just wanted to leave due to the treatment. Hotel continually refused the request, booking.com were very confused as they felt a refund was warranted. Very minimal supplies in bathroom for a hotel eg: combination shampoo/body wash. Although breakfast staff were wonderful the breakfast was stale pastries and very very basic hot food. On check in told no outside food to be brought into the rooms due to ‘hygiene reasons’, signs around saying the same. Manager then changed this to no hot food from outside be brought into rooms, still is an unusual request. We couldn’t wait to leave.

The room booked was part of our budget category and advertised as with 'internal courtyard view' on Booking.com. This was explained at the time of booking as well as at check-in, and while no upgrades were available at the time, we regret if this clarification was perceived as rude or dismissive, as our intention was simply to provide accurate information. Our food policy is in place for hygiene reasons to ensure a pleasant stay for all our guests and is communicated upon arrival as rooms are not designated dining areas. The hospitality style of our hotel is intentionally friendly and familiar, something many guests appreciate and often highlight in feedbacks over 60 years of activity. While we were surprised by your comments about the front desk, as your interactions were minimal, we were pleased to offer an upgrade later in your stay to help improve your experience and it was unfortunate that you never addressed the matters at reception even when accepting the improvement. We regret that your stay didn’t meet your expectations and recommend next time you shall consider one of our superior rooms, which would better reflect the standards you’re looking for, as this stay was part of our budget offering.
