How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewThe gardens, the pool area and the historical nature of the castle were fantastic.
There is miscommunication about the facilities of the hotel and what you’d expect upon arrival. For instance, we stayed for two nights and there was no wine-tasting which you would expect in this place. There was only one restaurant open and the second option- Michelin star one was closed, again for a quality hotel at this level, you’d expect communication in advance. When we asked for a wine-tour option, we were suggested something very random, without much preparation. Except for two colleagues at the reception, none were interested and provided personalised service. We received a very rushed and poor induction by one of the colleagues at the reception, again something you wouldn’t expect at your arrival. My overall sense is that the hotel lacked personal touch and care. Not to mention the price of the items on the menu.

Verified reviewCastello di Spaltenna is one of our favorite hotels to stay at. This was actually our third time there and we expect to go back when we travel to Chianti. Our kids, 3 & 5, love staying there too, with the amazing pools and delicious food. Can't wait till next time!
The only "complaint" is we wish the beds were a little bit more comfortable, but thats really it.

Verified reviewThe most beautiful peaceful hotel. Would highly recommend
Our only criticism was that our bed was two single beds pushed together rather than one large king/double bed. However this was not a big deal it was just something we noticed when we lay on the mattress.

Verified reviewThe pool area was beautiful, the loungers were able to make the most of the sun until late in the evening. The staff were amazing, so helpful and polite and nothing was too much bother. Breakfast was great, very good selection of continental food and other hot food was available on request. We ate at the hotel resturant twice in 4 days and the food was excellent but the menu was limited and didn't change. But there were specials of the day that did change. The gym was good for a hotel gym, running and crosstrainer machines as we as leg extention and shoulders machine. The spa was lovely, sauna, hot tub, Turkish bath and lounging area was very peaceful. The view from the hotel was amazing and the area is beautiful. The rooms are great, slightly dark, but it doesn't effect anything and adds character.
The door to the gym was slightly broken and wouldn't shut properly. The menu in the restaurant didn't change at all and was slightly limited but still great food!

Verified reviewBeautiful place. Staff are super friendly. The views are incredible. Food was great although we often ate in town (another bonus that it's walking distance). We did their wine tasting which I'd also recommend. Great room and bathroom/shower. The pool for me was the highlight, especially with the views. It was too warm we didn't fancy the spa or gym. The gym the cardio machines face the mirrors instead of the views which seemed odd to me. Great spread for breakfast too.
The only thing i didn't love is they started clearing away breakfast 15 mins before it closed, signs were removed and the second it his 10am it sounded so hectic. Same with the pool, we were last ones there sometimes about 7pm (it's open till 8pm) and someone starting clearing up and tidying around us, and we felt we had to leave.

Verified reviewThe property is gorgeous. The staff is really great. The food was good. Large rooms. Great massage!
Not a lot of diversity in guests. Almost all were American (including us). Kind of takes you out of being away in Italy a little bit. But, there is a cute little town right down the hill, 3 minutes away that you can get your fill of Italian culture at.

Verified reviewWe were so impressed with the history and beauty of the property. The staff is very professional. Parking is easy. Breakfast was the best we had at any of our stays in italy, the staff at breakfast was so nice and friendly. The view is absolutely amazing. We loved walking the property. The spa included for an hour was a great addition. We really liked the location. We would absolutely stay here again
the amount of stairs to get to our room was tiring but it's not a surprise since it is an old monastery! They carried our luggage so it wasnt a problem at all. The main issue was the regular restaurant was unavailable for the days we were staying there which they did not tell us about in advance and was kind of frustrating.
