How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewClose to all amenities such as restaurants and supermarkets. Greeted by host(s) on arrival. Apartment featured a lounge/sitting room, bedroom with a side area for a fridge and possibly a wardrobe area for hanging clothes plus the bathroom.
Descent sized apartment that seemed to be cluttered with excess stuff. (No judgement, just my taste)

Verified reviewThe apartment is located near a beautiful square and cathedral. The building has a charming old facade, which I'd guess dates back to the early 20th century. The entrance is beautiful, though a little neglected, with painted ceilings, a marble staircase, and wooden railings. The apartment itself is very atmospheric, filled with antique furniture and paintings. The room is split-level, with a large bed on the first floor and another on the second, connected by a transparent ceiling with wooden beams. The apartment also features beautiful floors made of old tiles. The highlight, however, is the welcoming and colorful host.

Verified reviewAn older hotel in the perfect part of town with a very kind & attentive staff, the “sofa bed” was an actual twin bed and it was a great stay in Massa.
Not much

Verified reviewThe bathroom was very clean and well appointed. Location was close to the historic centre and to good restaurants.
We were surprised this place had such a high rating. We found it a bit dark and gloomy. The sheets and towels were kind of threadbare. The place seemed to be striving for an artsy vibe but it just felt cluttered. The young man who checked us in was pleasant but seemed to be filling in for the host and didn’t know whether we had ordered breakfast or whether there was a stamp for our pilgrim credentials.

Verified reviewThe staff could not have been nicer. Breakfast was delicious with eggs, yogurt with fresh fruit, various breads, coffee, and juice. The apartment was very nice. It was one of the best places I stayed in during my 6 weeks in Italy. It was right on the Via Francigena.
I did not like having to leave.

Verified reviewThe room had wonderful art and the common area was very nice with some original art. Quite nice and right next to the piazza.
Had a weird reception where a lady let me in and handed me a key set and pointed to my room. Later, a different lady was showing another guest his room and barely acknowledged me. Until I left the next morning there was no contact from the owner or any other person. Owner was quite nice and provided a good breakfast, but by then I was out the door and didn’t really appreciate fully his breakfast efforts.

Verified reviewWe enjoyed our stay at Cavour 33. Central location. Room was spacious with comfortable bed. Shower in bathroom good water pressure. Our host was very friendly and offered us breakfast because we are walking to Rome (via Francigena) and come from South Africa! Much appreciated! Via Cavour 33 - highly recommended

Verified reviewCaesare was a very dapper chap, dressed stylishly with proper shoes. He was very helpful and directed us to parking and other facilities. We were very grateful for the blanket as an alternative to the anti-allergenic duvet which I find impossible. The bathroom was quite new and Caesare informed me that the marble was Collamandino which was a good contrast to the Bottincino Classical on the floor and the Semi Classic on the walls (I do know my marbles). The room could have been a little larger to allow one to unpack but it was clean and bright, so no complaints.
Somewhere to unpack
