While the room was comfortable and very clean, unfortunately I could hear the phone conversations of the very angry man next door...for hours! Better sound-proofing is required!

    Very helpful staff at reception.

The room i checked into could have been cleaner (spilled sticky stuff on the bedside table) but second day cleaning although a bit late (2pm) was satisfactory. The hotel could do more to keep the terrace in front of the hotel tidy and with clean ashtrays.

Great location. Central yet quiet. Very comfortable bed. Nice breakfast spread. Very good and secure basement parking facility.

The staff is very unfriendly and very inefficient. Our aircon was too warm and they insisted it was 17 C according to their computer, I called three times and even went to the front desk to tell them but they did not bother to see it for themselves. I sweated the whole night. The room attendants were also unhelpful. Excelsior Hotel is bad for Puglia. This is the only place where I did not feel good in Puglia. NEVER STAY HERE.

The parking was safe and practical which cost 10 Euro. It is really fair considering that it looked so dirty from the outside.

hairdryer hanging off wall, breakfast times were unclear

This hotel is nice enough but it's not in the nicest area of Bari, however it is only a ten minute walk so not an issue. We were ok as we are linguists but note that the staff and in general in this part of Italy there is extremely limited English so don't go there expecting them to be fluent in English - get an Italian phrasebook. There was a hairdryer in the bathroom which was hanging off the wall so could not be used and we were told breakfast finished at 1130 when it finished at 10 so we missed it so be sure to check this out. Although it says 4 star, it's more what us UK lot would probably class as a nice Travelodge. It's literally nice enough and clean. Also be aware that European adapters don't work in Italy and they are hard to buy there so make sure you get a universal adapter or one that you're certain will work there.

    - most of the things are not working like air conditioning starts and stops by itself - bath has no fan or did not working - breakfast same every day for 5 days in row - the grandmother of the owner had made a scene because we was charging phones in the lobby - not a 4* stars quality.

    - location is maybe the only + - staff - big rooms

The TV had no English channels at all - over 400 channel options, so it would have been easy to add BBC or CNN or SKY News to the lineup. The airconditioning was rather complicated to operate but fine once I got the hang of it. Some instructions in the room would have been helpful. The resteraunt was closed, and the bar did not function, even though the menu is prominently displayed in the elevators. There is nowhere in the immediate area one would ever consider dining or going for a drink, so this was a serious flaw for me.

The staff were polite and helpful to me at all times.

It is not a dislike, but it was strange that at a 4 stars hotel with so good facilities to have a blanket like from the past century :) you could really change that.

Everything has a tired feel to it. The lifts, the corridors with the annoying electricity saving sensors that mean you walk along a darkened tunnel with just a light on above you and the rooms given the traffic through them with the number of one night stays are okay but just feel tatty. You just console yourself with the knowledge that first thing in the morning you are on your way again. Like most towns around a railway station especially in the South the area is poor and getting poorer and all rather sad. We did find a restaurant nearby that also felt it had known far better times as did the bars. I do hope there are better hotels Bari but if your there for one night and moving on by public transport then this does what it says on the packet. No more no less.

The hotel is close both to the train station and 50 metres to the long distance bus stopping area which given the price of trains in Italy is becoming the go to form of transport. So for a night it is the ideal place and certainly every room on our floor was being used for that purpose given the early morning traffic up and down the corridor . The rooms are adequate , the beds comfortable and the bathroom small with a decent shower. There is even a desk though nowhere to plug in rechargers etc. That is down by the head of the bed ! The heating is kept at a heady 24C but the window opens, so if you can take the traffic noise you don't fry alive. There is a breakfast thrown in and the serving staff are delightful but the dining room is completely soulless .

Frontdesk. There was a female at our check-in and she seemed she didn’t like her job. Never smiled and gave us little information of the hotel and the area when asked. We weren’t helped with our luggage and we had to park the car down to the garage while at the front desk there was a porter busy cleaning the hall. Imagine how this is all difficult with children. 4 *htl I accept to have a porter ready to give us a hand!

Did not have access to the gym with the room card, could only be let in by staff. Dinner options were limited. Asked for a quick snack for breakfast on day of departure as we had to leave before breakfast commenced. Staff said it would be waiting for us at the reception the next morning but the attendant on duty knew nothing about it so we left with nothing.

Room was comfortable and had many accessories available. Ability to open window for fresh air was also great.

the fact that we were told the solution to getting a twin room with walk in shower could be had at another hotel 3mins away .the full info before booking .

the hotel was ok very much set out for conferences. we had to wait for 1/12 hrs on arrival to finally get a room that was acceptable. we requested a walk in shower in our twin room that was confirmed by email when we got the first room the walk in shower measure approx 24in sq. only fir for a child not a full grown adult and we were told by staff that they do not have twin rooms there. My sister and I shared a double bed which was comfortable but not ideal. Breakfast was good only if you got there before 8.30am as when a dish is gone it is not replaced..

When looking for a hotel for a 3 person family on booking.com the double room option in this hotel was proposed with free cancelation option one day before arrival day. Booking was done one week in advance. In the comments field we had asked for an extra bed for a child. Just a day before arrival we have received an e.mail from hotel that there is no possibility for an extra bed with proposal to upgrade the room to a bigger one for an extra fee (free cancelation right was already expired). Moreover, although there was a free Wi-Fi option included in the room rate, Wi-Fi was not working in the room 2 days out of 3.

Hotel produces a very strange impression: like it was good some time ago, bu not cared anymore on a higher level, and only local team is trying to keep the service. From the beginning: - dirty, not lighted area of garage entrance - the garage cannot be open if you press the button to the garage entrance - as the system is broken, you need to go inside hotel and ask to open it - meanwhile, you pay 13 Euro per night for this service - air conditioning in central and works with a real sound. To get off the sound, you have to ask switching off the conditioner, this also switches off the heating - seems like all equipment is outdated
