The bathroom-shower curtain didnt reach the edge of the bath so created lots of water on the floor and a major slip hazard.

Convenient location, easy walk to train station and nice view of mount etna.

Daily free bottle of water, which costs nothing, could make that little difference

Room OK, so was the bed. . We asked for slippers and dressing gown and were immediately provided with one. Chambermaid was friendly and helpful. Asked for extension on checkout and was immediately granted. Impeccable linen.Good place for shopping and meetings, parking in front of hotel is ideal for visiting business friends. Etna vies from room made a difference from my previous visit.

The fitness room was extremely poor, really below the hotel level. It's a pity, because the location in the upper floor is nice: but it has to be improved seriously, both concerning the equipment and the renovation of the room itself

Rooms are old / chipped paint / carpets are terrible / we requested a room change as our original room was awful and smelt of damp.

The hotel is located centrally and in a perfect part of town. However that's where the positives stop. The hotel is in dire need of renovation and updating. The thread bare and worn carpets, the general state of the hotel (apart from the reception) area - means the hallways and bedrooms really need a lick of paint and new flooring or carpets. The hotel must have been very grand in it's heyday but sadly requires some work to bring it to the 4* standard it promotes.

I was first given room 425.This room has faulty pipework connections in the drain system since the bad drainage odor in the bathroom is unbearable and a health hazard. Definately this poison gas problem needs to be addressed and not simply make a room change for those who complain.

Even though the room looks impressive, the ceiling needs some improvements.

The breakfast was nice (especially the carrot juice and the cheese with pistachio). The hotel is located just in front of the Alibus station.

    * Not all the reception staff were helpful or sufficiently knowledgeable to offer any advice on tours etc. But many thanks to Concetti we were able to book the tour to Mt Etna. *The room had only heating, no cool air conditioning so it was rather warm.

The housekeeping service was excellent with high standard of cleanliness. The maintenance service staff is quick to attend to any problems.

Our room was not well maintained. Some lights were not working, the bathroom door's handle was broken and fall many times. One day coffee in the room was consumed and was not replaced. They also did some maintenance work on the water supply, and this night we were obliged to run the water for 30min to get rid of the dirty water before getting clean one.

Liked the cleanliness, the breakfast, the proximity to the bus station and to the center. Our room was spacious.

I absolutely do not recommend staying at this hotel. It starts with service. Upon arrival I've discovered a HAIR in one of the glasses. I've complained to the receptionist and he told "No worry. This is not a problem. Take a new glass from the bar" and escaped to the staff room. No apologies, nothing! Maybe not a problem for him, but definitely a problem for me. Breakfast is poor (mostly sweets). You have to chase waiters at breakfast to order a coffee. The hotel is old, everything is worn, probably it hasn't seen renovation for ages. Stains everywhere, dirty carpets, old and damaged furniture, mold in bathrooms, rusty water (see photos). They removed one star from the hotel rug at the entrance, so that it says 4 stars instead of 5 starts. They should remove 2 more, so that it matches the real level of the hotel.

-Location is good. -Alibus stops right in front of the hotel -A nice breakfast terrace

We booked twin mountain view room. We were asked if we wanted a king bed but weren't told this was an upgrade and had no view. Room had several faults which needed attention. External door did not lock as it was broken, safe needed new batteries mid stay as it couldn't be opened, curtain fell down when touched, shower screen needed a proper clean, aircon couldn't be started due to strange operating technique needed and TV was difficult due to poor instructions in the room. Could be better with attention to detail.

Room was spacious and the breakfast was very good. The location was convenient and walking distance from the main areas of Catania.Maintainence fixed the issues promptly and staff assisted knowledgibly with operating issues.Presents well when inside the building.

Some updating to carpet, fixtures and walls.

The room was spacious. Bathroom with two sinks, shower was adequate...not the 2' x 2' showers that some places have. There was what I will call a closet room with shelves where we were able to put our luggage on to open up. There was a safe in there as well. We had a living room with chairs, couch, tv, desk and coffee table. From there doors led out to the balcony over the public parking area and in the distance, Mt. Etna! The bedroom was separated, quite spacious. Crisp, clean white sheets and the extra pillows were provided as we have requested. We ate at the hotel. The food was excellent. Our server was wonderful. And were we ever surprised at the wonderful breakfast spread they had the next morning! They had all the Italian type breakfast items of excellent quality but also pancakes, waffles, meats and cheeses, eggs, bacon and potatoes, several juices including blood orange, delicious coffees and tea. You will not be disappointed. The staff at the front desk were very good answering all our questions. If you are expecting them to be bubbly with some southern charm (ours), you will not see that. However, they were very kind, considerate, efficient, helpful and professionally friendly. We only stayed one night because we were going to see family in another part of Sicily; however, I would go back and stay there again to do more sightseeing around Catania! Thank you to the Mercure Catania Excelsior!

Staff were not helpful or friendly, seemed like they couldn't be bothered. Would not go to this hotel again for this reason. Quite often the coffee at the buffet was lukewarm at best. No seating on the balcony. The bathroom was massive and yet no separate shower, you had to shower standing in the bath.

Large and airy hotel. Good size room, we had a double delux room with a balcony. Good location for old and new town. Breakfast buffet was adequate but there was a menu to choose from for an additional cost. Outside bar area. Aircon system was good. Good selection of toiletries including a toothbrush.
