How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewWe had a wonderful experience at this accommodation in Rome! The apartment was very clean, well-maintained, and equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location is excellent – just a few steps from the metro station, on the line that goes directly to all the major tourist attractions. Very easy to reach from the airport (train + metro). The host was extremely kind, welcoming, and always available for any questions or needs. Luca, thank you for everything – we felt right at home and will definitely come back!

Verified reviewI absolutely loved my stay here! The place was clean, cozy, and had everything we needed, but what truly made the experience special was Luca. He is a wonderful person: incredibly kind, helpful, and always available whenever we needed support. From the moment we booked until check-out, everything was perfectly organized and smooth. Thank you, Luca, for your hospitality. I would definitely come back and highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Rome!
Everything is perfect!!

Verified reviewOur stay was perfect. The location of the accommodation is excellent – everything important is within walking distance. The room was clean, cosy, and well-equipped. A big plus was the comfortable, non-sagging bed, which allowed us to rest wonderfully after a full day of exploring the city. The host, Luca, was extremely friendly and kind, offering us plenty of helpful advice and making sure we had everything we needed. We also appreciated the smooth check-in and the pleasant atmosphere throughout our stay. We highly recommend this place and would be happy to return on our next visit to Rome!

Verified reviewRight next to the metro line, 2 stops away from termini and other main attractions. Check-in done remotely and fairly straightforward.
Little privacy in the rooms, the walls are very thin. The dirty waters system in the bathroom makes quite some noise when on, so if someone opens the water it can wake up everyone Overall not worth over 100 euros (city taxes excl!) per night that I was charged, in my opinion!
I'm happy for the things you liked, and gld of that! I'm sorry about the things you didn't like, but I have to point out a couple of things: my property has a total review score of 8.5 and in many years no one had had so many problems with the drainage system, which absolutely It's not dirty at all and makes a little 5 second noise when it comes on. I believe and I am certain of this since I have rented the room assigned to you hundreds of times without such a negative feedback. In compensation I think you were botheered by the request for tourist taxes and I'm sorry about that. Unfortunately it is not my decision to make those pay but that is a law of the municipality of Rome and above all, it was well written both at the time of booking and in the emails written to you directly, which were not included. Last thing regarding value: it doesn't seem to me that your expense was more than €100 excluding taxes, so I really don't understand your point! Luca

Verified reviewFirst of all, Luca is a very nice host. Even though we didn't meet in real life, the communication was transparent and friendly. Our flight was delayed, so we didn't arrive before 11 p.m. But by communicating well and clearly with Luca we were able to get into the apartment without much difficulty. The New York room is perfect because it's nice and clean, within a 1-minute walk of the Metro and a 17-minute walk to the Colosseum.
The apartment is located on a busy road, but you get used to it quickly. And the bus stops right in front of the apartment, which is a plus. Someone in the apartment was renovating his house for a few days, but because we always left early to explore Rome, it didn't bother us that much. Altogether, we had a great time in Rome, due to the place of residence :)

Really don’t know what to answer to a “1” review since I have 8.4 average and many many guests always really happy about their choice! I’m also really sorry to have been so kind with you, especially to be always disposal and give you the way to make the check in 3 hours before the normal time. I’m sorry I was not able to give you the room of your preference but I’ve explained you live, why!!! I think you really never have been in a place with the score under 4! I’m sure of that and I reciprocate you the score as guests! Luca

Verified reviewThe room we stayed at (Tokyo) was spacious and clean. The host was very nice, provided us with useful tips about transportation from the airport and reacted incredibly quickly when we had an issue. Both check in and check out were easy. The location was great, you can easily walk to the Colosseum and there are two great gelato shops nearby.

Verified reviewGreat location, few steps and you are in Saint Giovanni metro station. Room was clean and check in process was simple. Since we had morning til evening routine, we didn’t meet personally with owner and forgot to pay for tourists tax! Owner was really calm in that situation and let us send it later!
Room was small and that was expected, but you don’t waste time in Rome lying down in the bed, so it’s totally fine.
