How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Old . Needs to be renovated

Verified reviewFirst: I will start with the positive: many thanks to Francesco at the reception! He really made my stay way less bad than it would’ve otherwise been. He deserves a raise! Very kind man, warm smile and so helpful. Good location, very central if you want to be in Ostia. Surrounded by the market and tons of food and gelato options! Breakfast was alright, same every day but with a good variety, albeit sometimes stale. Good coffee too. Daily cleaning is good, but the room needed deep cleaning. Check out the pictures for some examples on the horrors of dirt, hiding in plain sight.
The hotel: building is very old and in desperate need of renovation (including the elevator, doors, some of the furniture…) and the doors are tiny. While the breakfast is included and is relatively good, the staff were rude and made me feel like I was stealing the cappuccino I asked for! There’s only ONE staffer throughout the entire, very busy breakfast, which might explain—but not excuse— their crass. One of the two ladies was always frowning and looked so angry like she was ready to fight. She pretended not to understand English when I spoke to her, but then one time I wanted to have tea in my room while I worked: now in my room there’s an electric kettle, but no cups, no tea, no utensils, nothing. I took a teabag from the breakfast area. I asked Francesco for a mug or a cup, he said I could take one from the breakfast area. The aforementioned breakfast lady saw me and yelled so loud in clear English: “WHAT? NO! NOT UP TO THE ROOM! NO!” In the very busy breakfast area. I was so mortified, and so was Francesco, who unlocked a very old cupboard with a bunch of random glasses (one of each type, like an antique museum…) That same afternoon he offered me an espresso when he saw me working on my computer, which came in at the perfect time! I requested a seaview room via Booking.com and I was shown that I got what I asked for, but a day after booking, I looked through my booking and that (very important) detail wasn’t clear. I messaged the hotel and asked them to confirm that I have a seaview room, they didn’t answer my message. I asked again, until they finally answered and said that the hotel was fully booked and they couldn’t accommodate my request, which wasn’t my fault and was disappointing. There’s one elevator and it’s so so so old and so tiny, I was worried every time I took it. Otherwise, don’t waste your money. Go to an Airbnb or another hotel even if you pay more. This hotel doesn’t deserve your business.

Verified reviewFor a 3 star hotel it was comfortable and charming. A quirky but simple set up for breakfast, with a basic but good enough choice to eat and drink. You had basic beer, wine, water and other soft drinks available to buy along with tea and coffee making facilities. The rooms were basic but suitable for our needs, as really we only needed somewhere to shower and sleep. They had air conditioning and we also had a nice little balcony with a table and chairs with sea view. If you fancied something different, it had a very quaint little rear courtyard garden with plenty of seating, sun beds and umbrellas. Directly across the road you can find 2 private beaches with plenty of sun beds, great amenities and food and drink. You also have very close access to public beaches, town centre, restaurants, bars, bus links and train station.
