How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Had booked a standard room. Took the elevator to the 3rd floor. In the elevator and hallways, it reeks of scented sticks with a burnt wood smell and an awful perfumed odor. In the room, it stinks of what we believe is perfumed room spray or pillow spray. Opened the small window (there is no balcony). The air conditioning cannot be operated/adjusted or turned off by the guest. We stayed in the room for a couple of hours and started feeling unwell because of the smell, spoke with reception about the odor, and asked them not to use any fragrances in the room as artificial scents trigger migraine attacks for one of us. They refused to stop using disinfectant in the bathroom. (Indeed, I became ill the first night and had to take medicine and preventive medication every evening before bed.) We slept with the window open while the air conditioning, which cannot be turned off, kept running. We spent very little time in the room. Later we discovered that it was the air conditioning that was emitting the terrible smell. The room had no electric kettle, so no possibility of making coffee/tea in the room. You can’t buy coffee/tea at the rooftop bar either. No iron (ironing and laundry available only for a fee, according to a sign). The rooftop pool is 2 x 6 meters, there are 10 sunbeds of which 2 are unusable, so it is nearly impossible to find a free one. Pigeons sit and drink water at the edge and defecate on the floor and in the pool; every day there was feces in the pool along with worms, likely dropped in by pigeons. Hotel pictures do not match the photos on the hotel’s website, they are clearly heavily photoshopped. We have stayed in 2, 3, and 4 star hotels all over the world and have never before experienced a hotel that fails to live up to its stars like this one.
Mr Birthe, we are sorry and regret this review of yours to which we must give the attention it deserves. Every day we asked you how you were doing and until the moment of departure we asked you if you had any comments to make regarding the completed stay and you did not say anything more, making us thinking that we had offered you a pleasant stay, but evidently this was not the case. Let's start immediately with the issue of perfume in the room, as mentioned several times, we pay the utmost attention to the well-being of our guests and, for this very reason, we have no longer been using deodorant sprays for three years (allergies are increasingly frequent and the environment also needs greater respect). However, we must use sanitizing cleaning products and these are not odorless. Despite this, we decided to clean your room with only water, explaining that at least in the bathroom we should have continued to use the sanitizing product in order to guarantee the highest level of hygiene for you and future guests. In the room, despite the absolute ban, you smoked cigarettes throughout your stay, causing the room to smell bad even after your departure but we did not want to report it because, we reiterate, the well-being of our guests is a priority. The medicines you took were probably due to your cold, not the scent of the bathroom sanitizer, we also ensure that the air conditioning filters are cleaned regularly and do not emit any scent. You have booked a standard room and, as written during the booking phase, there is no kettle in the room, however it is possible to request it at the front desk or to the cleaners. Regarding the swimming pool, we recognize the presence of doves and for this reason the cleaning and sanitization of the swimming pool takes place three times a day but we have no deterrent possibilities. Laundry service is subject to charges but we have free irons available for all guests who request them at reception. Furthermore, the breakfast service is a service that we absolutely cannot save on, on the contrary, if I had had suggestions to improve it they would have been very welcome. Having said that, we are aware that we are not perfect but we are proud of our daily commitment to always do better and the countless positive reviews demonstrate this. The road to being perfect is sometimes arduous, we are aware of it, we are constantly ready to welcome opinions different from ours in order to improve ourselves to guarantee a better experience but we cannot avoid saying that considering Room of Andrea as HORRIBLE hurts us and offends us. Verified reviewThe location is very good, just at the start of the old town. It’s very clean. We thought that the hotel looks a bit cozier on the pictures. The room was nice but not special. Easy parking of the car at a public parking two minutes walk.
We were expecting more about how the rooms would look like, more cozy, more dressed up.

We felt that the rooms and facilities weren't great. For a 4 star hotel I'd expect a little more. Plastic cups in the bathroom, no robes in the rooms, bad coffee/kettle situation in the rooms - we just felt for the money and for the star rating there'd be more. Also the roof top pool there's no shade which gave no little respite from the heat. We also requested a sea view and our room looked out onto the street. The reception did offer a room change, but this was to a darker less enchanting room that faced the car park so we stuck with the original.

Since we care a lot about the opinion of our guests, we will make the most of your reports but we also want to give explanations. Bathrobes, if missing in the room, can be requested at the front desk. Regarding the glasses in the bathroom, we are working to find an efficient and more ecological solution that we hope to implement in the shortest possible time. The kettle was regularly present in the assigned room and we have confirm that tea and instant coffee have been regularly replaced as needed. You asked us for a sea view room but none of our rooms enjoy this view, much less the standard rooms like the one you booked. However, you enjoyed an up grade antique-style superior room with a view of the square and partial sea views, one of the brightest, so we don't understand why you were disappointed. Furthermore, our terrace offers a small swimming pool to find refreshment at the end of a day at the seaside or on an excursion; since the Room of Andrea is a city hotel, near the sea, we do not claim to offer an Olympic swimming pool and this is visible through the images presented on this portal and everywhere on the web. There are no umbrellas for safety reasons, in fact, the constant wind that characterizes the city of Trapani would cause it to fall from the fourth floor. Not having had the chance to give you all these explanations, we hope we have succeeded now and hope you can return to offer maximum comfort. Regards

Air conditioning out of service the second night , the cleaning room service very basic, no welcoming staff, room very large but scarcely equipped and very noisy and last but not least bed was very uncomfortable .

To our question if everything had gone well, no mention was made especially in relation to the air conditioning, furthermore, we are not aware of any malfunctions in the room assigned to you; it is more likely that the system went on standby and a call to the front desk that was always operational, even at night, would have been enough. If you ever want to return, you will be the welcome one and we will do our best to give you a more comfortable stay.
