How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewThe hotel is situated in a convenient area of the old town. It’s an unusual quirky but charming hotel with a mix of new and old decor but the layout was a bit confusing and be prepared for lots of stairs to get bags up and down. Staff are very nice are always accomodating to your needs. I was given a room I wasn’t happy with and they moved me to another room. Breakfast was varied and plentiful.
My original double room for one person was nothing like the photos. It was down a steep flight of winding steps and was like a dark cavern. Luckily they had another room to move me to. Being in the old town there was noise at night till late even with the windows closed from the bar in the next street. The hotel does not offer the Guest Card for visitors for free use of the cable car and transport.

Verified reviewVery nice place in the city centre. Really nice architecture of the hotel, especially inside its very well maintained! Staff is very friendly.
Lots of stairs to reach your room, elevators available but not to all rooms. Not an issue for me but request a room in reach of the elevators if thats an issue for you

Verified reviewGreat location, very beautiful and interesting old architecture. When the windows are closed, the room is quiet. The self chek-in was very easy to do.
Maybe weak wifi in the room.

Verified reviewBeautiful building - really stylish and interesting. Will return!
It was all perfect. But other reviews are correct; this is not a hotel for people who struggle with stairs!

I think the bed could have been more comfortable but that all. And I’m nit-picking

Verified reviewGreat location with well finished &!furnished common areas. Bedroom was a good size with a comfortable bed. Messaging / comms with staff before and during the stay was very good overall. They arranged bookings for us very well.
The main problem was that we had a deluxe room which was difficult, convoluted and exhausting to access - up two flights of stairs and two floors, across a link bridge corridor then down two flights. Although the property is very old and has been converted, we weren’t warned about that before we arrived and it’s an issue as we’re in our 60’s. The bathroom was too small for a deluxe room and had no shampoo in the rather small shower or anywhere to hang towels after use - no body lotion or toiletry extras at all. Also the aircon was operational but the system didn’t seem to change when we adjusted the controls. It was either on very cold or not at all!! Service in the breakfast room was a rather abrupt at times (ie. Not very friendly). Overall, the property should be a real winner but it missed the target on some key deliverables as above.

Verified reviewGorgeous little hotel with beautiful interior and super comfortable rooms, everything was so easy from checkout to departure and there are fantastic extra facilities like the neighbouring restaurant and sauna. Very well located for day hikes in the mountains and right in the centre of town. Couldn’t recommend more highly

Verified reviewA delightful old building, renovated with great care. One highlight is no doubt the roof terrace with amazing views over the town. Despite the age of the building the design of the room was modern and still in keeping with the overall ambience. Both the kettle and the coffee maker were most welcome. Very nice welcome at the reception. The breakfast included many healthy options.

Verified reviewThe property is located in a safe, walkable area with lovely restaurants and shops nearby. Goldstern is a very special hotel; it’s aesthetically so beautiful and comfortable! We had two incredible outdoor spaces to enjoy. The breakfast is a bit pricey but offers so much variety of fresh delicious items. We felt it was worth it! And the staff was very welcoming and helpful.
One suggestion we had is that the room would benefit from a little more lighting. It felt quite dark once the sun went down. But otherwise, it’s an amazing space!
