Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomNothing, we had a wonderful stay!
Beautiful, clean and spacious property; wonderful, thoughtful host who made us feel so welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and Cecco went out of her way to make our stay memorable. Highly recommend and would definitely want to stay here again if we return to Kyoto.

AustriaLady Cecco, who is the owner of this beautiful 100years ++ old house was/is extremely friendly and helpful and among others an excellent cook! Apart from feeling very welcome, we also enjoyed her Japanese style breakfast, which was very special and delicious. The house is super charming and the tatami smells so good, the futon beds were comfortable and otherwise, in spite of being a historical place, the room was equipped with all possible comforts, i.a. a well-functioning AirCon, which was badly necessary, since our Kyoto visit happened to be during a terrible heatwave after heavy rains (ca. 40°C + unbearably humid). All in all, we enjoyed our stay at Azukiya very much! Arigato goizamazu :)

SpainTo get to the middle of the gion area is a good 25 minute walk but it is such an incredibly busy area that it was actually nice to get away from it all. Moreover we rented bikes from the owner which made travelling about super easy.
Beautiful traditional japanese guesthouse just on the periphery of Gion district. On busy main road but very quiet inside with bedroom looking out on pretty garden. The owner was so charming and helpful and spoke very good English. Would.highlybrecommend the breakfast both Japanese and western style were fabulous. Really good local.restaurants nearby.

United StatesThe stairs leading upstairs were narrow and a little scary to navigate in socks (slippery) but it wasn't really that bad.
This was my friend and I's favorite spot we stayed in while on our vacation in Japan by far! The room was beautiful, spacious, and had a great view of the garden below. The bathroom was incredibly nice and the futons provided were very comfortable. The owner was super friendly and accommodating. We were also a short walk from the train station and a few convenience stores which made getting around Kyoto and picking up snacks very easy.

United StatesEverything was amazing! The distance from the train was small and downhill. The host was phenomenal, she made us breakfast and each day was a different region. She also had amazing recommendations on where to tour. I want to come back to Kyoto again just so I can stay there longer!

Our quick two day trip to Kyoto was excellent and it was made perfect with our stay at Azukiya. When planning this last minute trip I was surprised that this B&B was available. The pictures and description on the site was exactly what we got. It was just PERFECT and gave us the Japanese experience. Our host was the sweetest and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. There are add-ons if you stay like bike rentals and breakfast but we didn't take advantage of it but we could smell her cooking every morning and it smelled AWESOME. We wish we would have taken advantage of that. The location was perfect for us. It was far enough away from the city center for us and in walking distance to the places we wanted to visit. It was also very close to the subway that we used to start our trek back home. All in all, this place was everything we expected and even more. We hope to visit again in the near future.

United StatesStaying at AUKIYA was an unforgettable experience—everything I imagined and more when thinking of Japan. The property itself is a perfect blend of traditional charm and modern comfort. The Zen garden was a peaceful retreat, and the bathroom was immaculate and beautifully designed. It’s in an ideal location, close enough to Gion, and the option to use e-bikes made exploring the area a breeze. What truly made the stay exceptional, though, was the hostess. She wasn’t just the cherry on top—she was the heart and soul of the experience. Her attention to detail was impeccable, and you could feel the genuine care and love she puts into making guests feel at home. The breakfast was delightful and carefully prepared, and I can’t recommend it enough.

AustraliaBeing in such an old house means there are definite imperfections! A few door hinges didn't quite close (likely due to wood expanding in the humidity).
Our stay in Azukiya was amazing. Chieko's warmth, kindness and hospitality is truly exceptional, and we were so lucky to have 4 nights of it! The location is great, 20 minute walk or a short subway or bus ride into town, while being close to Ginza, Kyomizu-dera and museums in East Kyoto. The teishoku style breakfasts are easily the best breakfasts we had in our trip across Japan. The room we had was big and comfortable, with AC and air purifier for the summer heat and humidity. Being able to use laundry and rent bikes were also excellent.
