The only reason I rated it a 9 instead of 10 is the squeaky floor on the second level, which can be a bit noisy. Still, I slept well since I always use earphones

There was no air conditioning in the communal space upstairs but bedrooms and main area downstairs were great. I had a top bunk and was the last to arrive in my dorm, so there was not much room to have any luggage in the bedroom with me. I kept my stuff in the locker in the communal area. It was fine for me to have luggage and another room, but not my favorite.

The staff was amazing and made the place feel like home. Starting at check in you’re greeted by the lovely pup Jiro. Then throughout my stay, everyone was so helpful and friendly. As a solo traveler, I was sad to leave a place that made me feel like family. It feels like you’re staying in an authentic traditional Japanese home turned hostel.

Breakfast is great. Hot water, drinking water and great coffee are available. Chairs, tables, TV, toilet, shower room and other facilities are comfy and useful. Staffs and owner are really helpful and welcoming.

The only downside was that my room faced a busy street, so I could hear traffic noise during the night. Still, I was always so tired from exploring that I managed to sleep well anyway. I’d definitely stay here again!

Warm, peaceful, and perfectly located, I felt at home. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the Heian Shrine and with easy access to public transportation. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and to my surprise, they were huge fans of Brazil, which made me feel even more welcomed. Breakfast was a lovely touch: simple, fresh, and clearly prepared with care. The room and common areas were always clean, and the little garden added a peaceful charm to the stay. The cost-benefit is amazing, especially in Kyoto.

The surrounding area is beautiful and the hostel is right by the canal. The staff were friendly and had some restaurant recommendations as well. The complimentary breakfast at the hostel is also really good.

Since it is an old wooden house, the ventilation and electric sockets were not proper.

1) Breakfast was excellent which was prepared by the owner itself. Their miso soup was the highlight dish. The owner was so kind that he offered us breakfast on the day of our check-in as we arrived there early morning. 2) The guest house was very close to all major tourist spots, metro station and convenient stores. 3) The place had a very positive and homely vibe because their employee- Jiro, who was the sweetest dog we met.

The bed was very uncomfortable. And I feel, the rooms need more AC in Summer time. Other than that, everything was perfect.

Uncomfortable beds and gives you backache.Owner should renew the mattresses.People go around all day and its not fair you come to hostel and sleep on this bad matress.

The edge of the bed frame is a few inches taller than the mattress which makes it hard to get out of the bed.

Staff are amazing: friendly, kind and always willing to help. Breakfast was good, the miso soup is still delicious and so wonderful to have fresh fruit and a good cup of strong freshly ground coffee!! The set up of the living area encourages people to talk and I always meet interesting and lovely people.

Honestly this hostel was one of my highlights in Kyoto!! The staff was super nice (they let me check in early too after a long overnight bus from tokyo) and everything was super clean and well maintained. Jiro was a plus of course. Emerson gave me some really good recommendations for food/bar in town 🤗 wanted to stay longer but it was sold out!! A must
