Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesThe kitchen was inaddaquate. As if they built a tight kitchen but I needed to hunt for the utensils and even unwrap the dish towels from their packaging. Also the common area is incredibly crowded with furniture that it makes walking around difficult.
Location is amazing.

JapanThe beds were a bit hard since the mattresses aren't thick. The kitchen was kind of gross looking, I didn't use it at all and the trash was overflowing. I didn't like how the smoking area was right next to the big bathroom and showers downstairs, so the whole bathroom smelled like cigarettes. The location is nice but the public transportation ends really early so unless you have a car or willing to use taxi services (which I think are already limited) it's kind of inconvenient.
It was a great place for the price/being a hostel. I stayed in the all female-dorm and having to type in a code to get in made me feel safe. The bunk beds also each had their own privacy curtain and a comfortable comforter. There was a small bathroom area where the upstairs rooms were (sink and toilet room) - the window looking out at a torii was nice. The hostel is located right near Lake Ashi.

United StatesThe beds were very painful to sleep on. They are always sort of missing things like having 4 sinks but only 2 working…the common area while looking nice is almost always very hot and the staff open the windows while thebair conditioner is on for some reason…. Finally the check in time is SOOOOO late at 4pm while checkout is very early at 10am. You recieve a threatening email in the morning to leave and anything you leave might be destroyed. Finally, nobody could provide me much info about the area. It overall felt like a cash grab kind of hostel. Not interested in the guests, only the money and any way to cheap out. Oh and they dont give you a towel to use.
The other guests were all very interesting, the wifi was good and the common area was big and nice.

AustraliaFacilities are fine but it's clear they take no effort in maintaining the place. Cleaning was terrible. Only good thing was the sheets felt clean. Also the lint out of the dryer hasn't been removed in what looked like a very long time, which poses a serious fire hazard. Keep in mind I've been backpacking through SE Asia on a budget before coming here and this was worse than the majority of places I've stayed.
Place looked new, facilities and games looked good

United StatesFeels deserted. There are no staff at all in the building and zero security. There were no locks from the front door to the dorms. It could be super nice but just needs a bit of attention. Also the beds were super uncomfortable.
Close the lake, interior of the building feels new.

ItalyUnfortunately, my experience at this hostel in Motohakone wasn’t a pleasant one. If you value attentive service, I wouldn’t recommend it. The place runs entirely on self check-in and check-out, and I was asked to send a photo of my passport by email — but never received any response, even after reaching out multiple times by phone and email to cancel one of my two nights due to weather-related access issues. No refund was given, and communication was nonexistent. I stayed one night in a mixed dorm with an extremely thin mattress, slept poorly, and found the bathrooms quite dirty — no toilet paper, no hand towels, and no staff around for basic questions like renting a towel. I paid $122 for two nights and sadly, it didn’t feel worth even a fraction of that. A disappointing experience overall

IsraelThe mattress was very thin, almost nonexistent. It felt like sleeping without one and I woke up with an aching back. The kitchen was nice, but not enough utensils for everyone and I found myself waiting for people to finish eating so I can use the utensils after them. The front door is broker and can only be opened with force. The bathroom wasn’t very clean and there is only ine sink to brush your teeth on the second floor. Very awkward if you have to share it with other people.
Great location and very nice people. A lot of seating space on the first floor.
