Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

South AfricaThis guesthouse/cafe combination is set in a peaceful residential area of Hikone. The owner is really friendly. He is happy to help you with travel advice. There is a nice common space with a view of Hikone Castle. The dorm was very simple, but I found the bed to be comfortable. Great value stay in Hikone!

United StatesLocation is a bit far from the train station ~40 min walking On the upside, it's near a big mall with a great grocery store. Only 15 min walk to the west castle entrance gate.
Fantastic little hostel! Very tranquil and quiet place. There's a nice little kitchen and table to use. Comfortable beds with curtain; great AC. Doesn't seem very crowded; I was there on a Saturday night and only 2 guests. Host speaks great English, very friendly and helpful. He lets you borrow a bike for free. I think this would be a great place to spend a few days exploring Lake Biwa, biking around Hikone village, etc. It's a great break from the big cities and heavily touristed areas.

United StatesStairs are a bit steep going up, so just be careful if you have heavy luggage.
Breakfast was garlic bread with coffee, it was good! I also forgot an item when I left the property during check-out, and the owner of the hostel was quick to inform me before I reached the train station.

Hong KongThe accommodation has a cozy home-like atmosphere, the host is very nice and welcoming. Would recommend to those who prefers homestays with a personal touch over large hostels. The facilities are also clean and the bed is very comfortable. It is only a few minutes walk from the lake side and the hikone castle.

The hostel is located in a quiet neighbourhood, but is a short (~2 min) walk from the main road. The owner of the hostel, Mr. Noguchi, was very friendly and helpful and spoke perfect english - even lending me his bike to visit Hikone castle. The dorm area upstairs was tidy and pleasant and the bunk beds were comfortable. Was one of the best stays I had whilst travelling in Japan

Hong KongOnly one toilet and one shower room available. Height of lower deck of the bunk bed is not enough for a 6-foot man to sit on bed.
Actually a local house with only 8 beds, big common room as a kitchen. The owner is the only staff.

JapanThe location is slightly inconvenient, although it is - of course - very safe. It may be better if you rent a bike or borrow one from Noguchi-san, but it takes about 10-15 minutes on foot to get out of the residential area that it's in, if you want to go to Hikone castle, the shores of Lake Biwa, or the main drag of Hikone to the east.
Noguchi-san, the owner and operator, is friendly, accommodating, and speaks English well. The cafe's regulars are friendly as well, and he was nice enough to act as an excellent translator when there were things that I had difficult explaining or understanding. The hostel itself is clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. The view from the second floor is pleasant, and I spent a lot of time just reading in front of the windows.
