Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

MalaysiaThe music at the coffee lounge was noisy. They should play a relaxing music, rather than rock pop song.
The ryokan is well designed, nice, and very good onsen to relax and enjoy. The food spread was fantastic, both breakfast and dinner, that we were so full that we couldn't even eat lunch.

United KingdomThe bathroom had mould on the shutters which really made it feel dirty and unkempt. It meant you couldn't use the shutters at all.
Beautiful hotel with a private onsen and gorgeous views of Mount Zāo. The staff are beyond friendly and go above and beyond. The free shuttle to the station was very useful. The footbath outside with a bench to view the mountains was idyllic.

FinlandAltough we thought that room hot bath would be on a terrace rather than inside in the bathroom, it didn't bother us since the public bath was tranquile.
Breakfast and dinner were delicious and plentiful. The private dining rooms were wonderful. Hotel interior was beautiful. The staff offered great help with our forgotten belongings.

CanadaThe facility is very clean and lovely, albeit a little bit on the older side.
The food is aboslutely amazing and they serve you a lot. You will defrinitely not go hungry eating either the breakfast or dinners. Everything is locally sourced, and the staff make a point to share with you where the food is from and what each item is. The onsens are very well maintained and have both lovely indoor and outdoor pools.

I booked this hotel without much expectation, mainly for the convenience of traveling to Ginzan Onsen. But once I checked in, I felt a bit regretful that I didn’t have more time to stay. The hotel is beautiful and clean, the staff are lovely, and they even upgraded my room. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. The public onsen was beautiful, clean, and very inviting, and there was even a private onsen in the room. The hotel is beautifully decorated with plenty of photo spots throughout.

Hong KongEverything is so organised that our luggage were delivered to our room. Our rooms are so specious. Dinner and Breakfast were arranged inside a beautiful room with the Ponds view. Food is so delicious, dinner with Japanese Wagyu. Feel so luxury. The Onsen was fabulous with inside and outside that we can enjoy. My brother thinks this is one the best value and experiences in Japan. Facilities are well maintained

United KingdomNothing at all!
I honestly can’t praise this hotel enough. We were late for dinner, but they waited for us, and upgraded us because we were there on honeymoon. We were given a multi course dinner in a private room with a fantastic server, then a beautiful room/apartment with an onsen bath.

United StatesAll staff present had our best interests in mind. Despite a language barrier and our inability to converse in Japanese, most staff members had the ability to understand some English or translate with ease. Breakfast and dinner were exceptional with an extraordinary level of detail we had yet to experience in our travels in Japan.

NetherlandsThe wifi connection was spotty at best, every device disconnected on average every 5 minutes. The dinners while excellent felt more like a bit of everything/best of rather than a designed menu (i.e. very salty fish after an amazing steak).
The room with mountain view and the thermal bath was sublime, even better than what I imagined. Excellent service, tasty and abundant meals. The shuttle service was a lifesaver.

SingaporeNothing!
We liked that it was a quiet and private space where we could rest without the hustle and bustle of the city. The environment and the layout of the ryokan, creates such a serene space for us. Which was exactly what we wanted. The services and the food it was exceptional. Every meal we had felt like it was so well taken care of and of such high quality. It was so healthy and delicious all at the same time. Every dish was amazing but We would never forget the beef we had there and the seaweed porridge and the many side dishes that came with them those were the highlight for us. The shuttle services were really handy for us travelling in and out of the ryokan.

United StatesThere is nothing I can think of.
All of the staff were extremely attentive and lovely. The room was spacious with a beautiful view. On the days that they were not busy it was ok for me to go into the public onsen with my tattoos. I loved having a private onsen bath in my room as well.

CanadaAbsolutely nothing. I actually have nothing bad to say.
The property was very luxurious, clean and just very comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly and tried to accommodate with what ever I needed. Even with the language barrier they did everything exceptionally without any issues. The food was amazing also. The dinners especially were one of the major highlights for me. I tried so many new dishes and they all tasted amazing. Being locally sourced also made if that more delicious. The room was also amazing as I had my own private onsen.

Hayamakan Ryokan is a fantastic place to stay! The staff are exceptionally friendly and polite, ensuring a warm and welcoming experience. The onsen is beautiful, and the massage and spa services add an extra layer of relaxation. The ryokan also provides a shuttle service, which is very convenient for guests. It’s located near the Yamagata Pudding Café, making it easy to explore the area. A special thanks to all the staff, including the Thai staff, for taking such great care of us. Overall, it’s a lovely place, and I highly recommend it!

United KingdomThe staff were brilliant and very friendly despite a language barrier with some, shuttling me to and from the station and helping me book a dinner reservation separate from my room booking. The room was as described but that's not a negative, it was a great experience with the footbath and private onsen. Recommend the dinner highly for a local kaiseki offering in a private room.
