Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

The property was amazing — and the host even better! We loved coming home to our Machiya and being able to relax. The kitchen was well equipped and they had snacks and drinks waiting for us. Overall the best stay of our trip!

United StatesWe were so pleasantly surprised by our stay at Imakumano Terrace! The place was very spacious and large, there were snacks and food provided, laundry and an amazing shower, and the beds were extremely comfortable. The host is also extremely friendly and provided us with recommendations for food and things to do in the area. I would highly recommend this accommodation!

Czech RepublicWe could stay longer :) It is a bit far from the main street and public transfer, but we used taxi, which is supercheap.
Highly recommended! Absolutely amazing place and hosts! You have the whole small Japanese style house for you. There was food and drinks prepared for us after arrival. Both hosts were very helpful and kind. If this place is free for your stay, just grab it :)

United StatesRachel was an amazing host, she was able to assist us w dinner reservations, recommendations of places to visit and treated our girls like family. The accommodation was a perfectly newly renovated home for Kyoto and was centrally located yet in a quiet residential neighborhood. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by the owner and staff, which made me feel very welcome. The room had a keypad lock on the door, so I didn’t need to carry a key when going out, which was incredibly convenient. The room was well-equipped with heating, making it very comfortable to stay in.The most delightful surprise was the incredible amenities! Perhaps because Kyoto is known as a city of bread, the kitchen was stocked with a variety of delicious bread. The fridge was also filled with beers, juices, and other goodies! The bathroom amenities were equally impressive, featuring generously sized face masks, heating pads, and skincare products for both women and men. There was even a hairdryer and a hair straightener available. Upstairs in the bedroom, they provided eye masks, socks, bottled water, and more—truly thoughtful touches.I stayed with my pet, a Bichon Frise, and the pet amenities were absolutely perfect! They provided dishes for him, along with towels, pee pads, and even a trimming mist. Seeing him so comfortable, as if he were at home, made me deeply grateful that we chose to stay here. Traveling with a pet can often be challenging, but at this accommodation, we both felt completely at ease. The location is in a quiet residential area, close to attractions like Sanjusangendo Temple and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. It felt like living in Kyoto rather than just visiting. The kitchen was fully equipped, and there was a washer (Laundry detergent is also included!)and dryer, making it ideal for long-term stays. Traveling in a foreign country where language barriers can be a challenge can often feel stressful, but the friendly owner and staff, who are fluent in multiple languages, were incredibly reassuring and made everything so much easier I’ve visited Kyoto many times with my pet, and this is one of the few places where I can truly relax and feel at home. And staying in a traditional Kyoto machiya townhouse is sure to be an incredibly exciting and unique experience!

United StatesPerfect stay. The hotel was cozy. We will definitely come again. A little bonus point - there is a front office with helpful staff and it is not intrusive because it is a little seprate from the property. We used them for a last minute restaurant booking because we were struggling to find a sukiyaki place and were limited on our time.

SwedenIt is located a 10 minute walk or so from public transport - a hard slog in the 34 degree heat we experienced (but would have been fine if the weather a bit cooler).
Beautifully appointed with pretty courtyard garden. Lovely owner who ensured we were well looked after without being intrusive.

JapanThe location is a bit far from a train station but we loved it because it was nice and quiet. Very little traffic noise and noise from neighbors.
Such a fun and wonderful experience staying at a traditional machiya house. The whole family loved it. We loved lounging at the sunken kotatsu and soaking in the traditional wooden tub at the end of the day. The fridge was stocked with drinks and breakfast items. Lovely bread and treats too. The owner made us feel welcome and at home.

MalaysiaNothing. Just a tiny note that there is a staircase leading up to the bedroom, that may be a challenge for old folks with mobility issues.
Everyone and everything was just wonderful. Our host Rachel and her assistant are such warm and thoughtful people who surprised us with goodies in the fridge, and an array of snacks upon check in. My daughter was so delighted by their kind gesture to help us celebrate an event. The bed arrangement (single futons for every person), the amenities in the bathroom, the kitchenware; were all perfectly curated. We loved walking around the quiet lanes that led to quaint temples and of course, to the iconic Kiyomizudera.

Futons are very comfortable, kitchen plenty of food to have breakfast and some beverages in the fridge. Rachel, the owner, is amazing, so interested in what we needed.
