We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaThe staff were very friendly and always willing to chat, but it was obvious most are just backpackers passing through, so we missed a bit of the local knowledge you might get if it was a more long term staff base. The onsen was unreliable in temperature, the women's was cold for 3 days, and the men's was cold for 2 days (different to each other). Which was a shame, and there was no signage or explanation as to what was wrong with it. When the onsen is cold the shower area was very chilly without the warm steam. It's all communal showers as well, no option for privacy. The general decor felt dated and getting run down but it didn't really impact our stay at all, probably a hangover from the fact this is under new ownership.
The breakfasts were always well cooked and yummy, and made to order so were hot and fresh. It seems like a rotating roster of 4 different options. Our room looked pretty much like the picture, 2 mattresses on the floor with warm doonas, was quite comfortable, if no frills. The heater in the room was amazing as well. Having access to a hot, large drying room was also appreciated. The location is great, walking distance to the akakura onsen ski resort and the main street/restaurants etc.

AustraliaPreviously stated, the property offered concierge lift to other mountains. This was cancelled the week of our stay due to staffing issues. It’s simply wasn’t good enough and shouldn’t have been our issue. The onsen wasn’t hot, again another issue they were aware of and couldn’t fix or didn’t not notify us of issue until we asked. We were told we could walk up the street and use their onsen, I could have booked that property for cheaper and used instead that onsen for free, instead we had to not to use their onsen. I Understand the property will be being renovated but these are things that should be covered and prepared for when they are offered as part of the property. If we were aware of these issue we would have booked elsewhere.
The location and the staff were great. Close to onsen to jump on the lift with a simple walk up the street. Staff were helpful and pleasant, were able to help and assist when required

AustraliaThe accommodation is very basic and dated. Shared bathrooms and toilets, which is not uncommon in traditional Japanese accommodation, but this feels more like a summer camp or frat house. The laundry facilities were not working at all during our stay which is inconvenient when skiing all day. The onsen was quite dirty on arrival but they seemed to implement a cleaning regime during our stay and it was much better after that. Would have liked to have been given a bit more information on arrival - eg. map of the town and the two options of where the lifts run from (took us a few days to work it out ourselves), where to find the ATM, suggest make dinner reservations etc. Just little things that can make your stay so much better.
Although on the further side of town, everything is so close so it's really no issue to walk everywhere. Staff were helpful & chatted when approached. Beds were comfortable. We were there for the snow, so out all day, so Juniya served its purpose for our family. The onsen at Taiko (about 100m away) was lovely.

AustraliaI believe the hotel was originally advertised with washing machines included however this must have since changed as when asked, they said they don’t have any washing machines so now charge 1500 yen for washing to be done with a local supplier.
We stayed at Juniya for 10 nights in the rooms with private ensuites. Overall we had a really good stay. Great location, comfortable beds, large sized rooms with ample storage and cupboard space, daily breakfasts were tasty, nice common areas, all the staff were friendly and accomodating especially when we needed lifts to and from the station, hotel onsen was nice and hot so was good to come back to when out snowboarding all day. We will definitely come back in future.

AustraliaLoved the convenience of being in Akakura town. Shops and restaurants around the corner from Juniya Myoko meant that everything was easy. Great breakfast every morning, whilst there was one choice of cooked breakfast each day there was also cerial and bread to toast. Onsen in hotel was great to have at the end of each day. Hotel was clean and with fresh paint throughout.

AustraliaI think for the price we paid the standard of hotel was a little poor. The hotel really needs some maintenance work. It is quite basic. No staff on the reception desk until 3pm. Most guests had lots of questions in the morning and there only staff available were the breakfast team. This put a lot of pressure on them. Suggest a staff member be available from 8-10am for departing guests, ski mountain questions etc. Shared bathrooms.
The room was quite large by Japanese standards. The beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic. Location was great. Staff were very friendly. Shared lounge area was a great area for interacting with staff and other guests. Onsite onsen was fantastic.

AustraliaSome of the facilities could have been cleaner. My room on check in had someone else's tissue in the bin. The lobby/couch area could have done with a vacuum. The drying room downstairs needed a cleanup and some maintenance to the rusted central hanging device/coat racks on rusty wire. No guest laundry on site (but to be fair they provided laundry services 2 times a week off site).
Juniya Myoko exceeded my expectations. I was originally told that because I had booked my room via a 3rd party there was an issue in keeping me in the same room. However shortly prior to my arrival I was told that I could keep the same room the entire stay! I appreciated the proximity of the property to Akakura Onsen Ski Resort where I could access Onsen and Kanko easily. I appreciated the shuttle bus service that the property provides if you need to get to/from Myoko-Kogen train station. Breakfast was good. Staff were friendly and communicated with me regularly. P.S. Just before I arrived I rechecked the reviews of the property and saw a few that mentioned that the property should have delayed their opening as they were not prepared for the start of the season? I didn't notice this at all and I stayed in late January 2025.

AustraliaProbably everything could have been a lot better. I know it had only recently opened with new owners but the staff were not trained for the job. Have been going to Japan to ski for 20years + first time to Myoko but will not go back to Juniya Myoko.
Location was ok. Staff was almost non existent. However, the ones who were available were fairly helpful. I don't think they were trained properly for the job Cleanliness of toilets not good. Never enough toilet paper even though it was requested a few times.

AustraliaI’ll open this with this is the first review I’ve ever written! Stayed here with my girlfriend, the staff were all just young aussies who just didn’t care. The men’s Onsen was cold, and the staff let 2 American men go and use the female onsen. My girlfriend walked into the onsen and came across 2 nude blokes sinking beers in the onsen. Not ok by any Japanese standards let alone western.

AustraliaNothing really. The beds are a little hard (Japanese style on the floor) but just something to be aware of.
We booked late and didn't have much to choose from but getting the last room available here was a huge stroke of luck. Great little hotel. Don't let the shared bathrooms put you off. Everything was spotless and all the other guests and staff were really respectful of each other. Easy stroll into town, even with ski boots on. Basic but VERY TASTY breakfast. Nice atmosphere and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.

AustraliaI understand they have only just opened for the first time this season. Even with that context, there were many moments I doubted that they should've opened at all. One working washing machine between staff and ~70 guests? Insufficient space for shoes in the entryway, leading to most people just dumping their shoes anywhere and no attempt being made to clean this up? Particulate in the onsen (looking like lint or dirt) along with clear signs of mold? I overheard staff saying someone would need to accompany the trainees to fill up a vehicle with fuel so they didn't "steal a bit off the top". I was contacted via this site by the manager to answer questions which the front desk should have been able to clearly answer, and to clarify that some of the services we had received after asking the on-site manager were never supposed to be offered and could inconvenience other guests. Please actually discuss procedures with your managing staff before opening - I felt accused. Certainly nothing was run to a Japanese standard. Toilet slippers were worn by a guest to the front and left there, never replaced by staff in over 5 days. Towels were strewn across the onsen dressing room each day at all hours. Guests were routinely loud with no care - screaming children at early hours - I saw no effort from staff to remind any parents or persons of the rules, or to be considerate of other guests. This was probably mostly due to the rules being unclear to staff. The ones I spoke with knew zero Japanese, but the signs informing guests and staff alike of the rules were still hanging from prior Japanese-run administration. These signs were routinely ignored throughout the hotel, as neither guests nor staff could read them. I could see efforts from management to correct some of the more glaring issues, for example a delivery of two washing machines late into our stay. It still seems like opening this year was a mistake, and reviews like this one should tell the story.
Staff were friendly, mostly Australians, and were willing to accommodate us with genuine kindness. The shuttle service to other ski resorts on the mountain was useful. The onsen was usable at all hours day or night - but when were the cleaning hours if so? Concerning.
