Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

FinlandQuite thin walls, but this wasn't really an issue during the night.
Great place to stay. The room was clean and comfy with traditional tatami flooring and a futon. Tried the breakfast once, it was tasty and only 300 yen. The coin washing machine and dryer were handy. The owners are very friendly. Also quite close to the Higashi Chaya teahouse district and a walking distance from the city centre. There was also a bus stop nearby.

AustraliaNothing - it was an older style home. Accomodation on 2nd floor. Homestay experience. Tatami mat was a bit uncomfortable- but my grandson gave me his 2nd layer and ended up perfect and snug.
Wonderful location - we walked everywhere: geisha district, restaurants train station etc. Lovely simple breakfast. Very kind hosts. And GAoo the doggo was very well behaved.

CanadaThe house only has one bathroom so you can be sharing with up to 6 people. We never had to wait too long. The people in the room next to us always came home pretty late (1-2am) and the walls were thin so it woke us up.
Phenomenal location. The hosts were great and the twin room was comfortable. Breakfast was simple but tasty. It was really pleasant!

United KingdomWe liked everything, no complaints.
My sister and I really enjoyed our stay at the share house! It was perfect as a base for exploring Kanazawa. The immediate area around the house was fascinating, with beautiful old houses and shrines around every corner. The room we were provided was spacious and the amenities clean and convenient. We really appreciated the warmth and hospitality of our hosts throughout our short stay. And of course, Gao was super cute! We would definitely return to Share House Gaooo and beautiful Kanazawa!

New ZealandThe stairs are very steep to the bedroom and Shoku kindly took my heavy suitcase up for me.
Breakfast was simple. I ate a 2nd breakfast an hour later. The couple who own and run Gaooo are warm, hospitable, helpful and kind. The guesthouse is homely and a lovely place to stay. The room was lovely, large and decorated with traditional furniture

SpainAbsolutely fantastic stay in an authentic and local home of a wonderful Japanese couple. Great location to explore Kanazawa. The room was spacious and had everything one could need. It was one of the cleanest places I have ever stayed at, and it had literally everything, it would be impossible to find a thing this guesthouse didn’t have. The hosts are the sweetest and kindest people, you can feel how much effort they have poured into this lovely guesthouse. Master Gao is the perfect host as well. It was cold and rainy during my stay but I had super warm and cozy blankets and even if it was not needed while sleeping, the heater worked perfectly. I loved sleeping on a futon on tatami flooring, it was a totally new and memorable experience and in the morning I woke up very well rested. The price quality ratio is out of balance, meaning, this is a fantastic stay. Thank you so much and I hope many more travellers will make their Kanazawa visit special by staying in this guesthouse.

AustraliaStairs were a little steep. If you find it hard to carry your suitcase upstairs, maybe request the downstairs room. There's only one bathroom and shower to share. We found it no problem.
It felt very family-like and comforting. There is a shared guest area where you can get tea and sit down for a break. The hosts offer breakfast for very little cost. Everything is kept very clean and tidy, and the towels were cleaned and changed daily. The beds were futons on tatamis, which was very comfortable. We were warm even in the middle of winter! Daily amenities were provided. We stayed upstairs where we had two rooms for four people (one large room and one smaller room). The large room was big enough to lay out all our luggages while the futons were laid out. There are several bus stops nearby with the RL Kanazawa sight seeing bus stop (runs daily every 15mins) just outside. The host gave us recommendations on a map and made sure we knew where we were going. I would definitely come back again if I'm in Kanazawa!

GermanyNothing, really, but this accommodation is simple and you need to be aware of that. Also, this is for quiet considerate travellers, not a party hostel.
Lovely guesthouse close to Higashi Chaya. It is run by an older couple who live on site and there are two or three guest rooms and an adorable Shiba Inu living in the house. I had the smallest room on the ground floor, which was incredibly cheap. Just a few tatami, a small table, a low chair, hooks for clothes. An aircon/heater that worked very well. Natural day light. For me, who goes out sightseeing, that was more than enough. There is also a large kitchen/ living room you are free to use, laundry facilities. All bathrooms are shared and are spick-and-span. The hosts are super friendly and speak English. Buses for the sights are close by, one bus stop basically in front of the house, another 300m away. Also, there are two really great onsen. Yamato Onsen is maybe 200m away and has muddy brown lovely onsen water. Kuwana Yu is about 500m and has fewer onsen baths but a sauna. Both are vintage Showa era public baths, basic but super clean, bring your own towel.

Amazing stay central and walkable to Higashi Chaya district, castle, gardens and train station. Soku, Chiketo, and GAO were absolutely lovely and super hospitable. I will be staying here again. The tatami mats (with a mattress) were super comfortable to sleep on and the rooms were nice and spacious with a heater that made you warm straight away. As a solo female traveller I felt safe and welcomed in this home and in the area. Tip: order the breakfast it is delicious

FinlandThe most beautiful and touching experience of Japanese hospitality. At Gao’s, Yoneda and Soku’s warm welcome made us feel like we stayed with a family. Little Gao-chan was an angel, and we couldn’t get enough of him ❤️ Our room was a big 2-floor room with an AC. We were warm and slept well. The futons can be a bit unusual after western beds, but our backs were really happy with the experience and we rested really well. The guest house and the district are very quiet and allow for good rest. The accommodation is in an excellent location if you want to visit places in Kanazawa. You can reach most places by foot easily, and during rainy days you can use bus connections, as the area is well connected. In the end of our stay, our kind hosts gave us handmade gifts, which was incredibly touching.
