Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesMy stay at Hatago Marasa is amazing! It locates on the way of Kumano Kodo Nakahechi and you can also access from Kurisugawa bus stop. The room is large and beautiful, and owner are kind, welcoming and providing awesome western (french?) style food, will definitely recommend to anyone!

One of the best places I’ve stayed in a long, long time Guesthouse is beautiful, very comfortable and extremely well-designed Owners are very friendly, welcoming and attentive. All the little details are taken care of - whether it’s the little spoons for stirring your coffee, or the olives served alongside dinner, or the thicker toilet paper (so many places in Japan use 1-ply!), or the yukata jacket provided because it was so cold. Or the fact they make an effort to cater to guests’ dietary requests, AND serve a Western-style meal for dinner because they know after many days in Japan, foreign guests might want something a bit more familiar to their palate. Just such a thoughtful place all around

AustraliaLovely relaxed setting with beautiful hosts. The collision of French and Japanese cuisine was a delight to experience. We found MaSaRa before we started looking for it, so convenient right on the trail of Kumano Kodo.

United KingdomNothing, I'd certainly recommend this charming guesthouse.
Wonderful location at the start of the Kumano Kodo trail. We spent about 2 hours walking from the information center to this guest house, and then about 5 hours to our next accommodation in Chikatsuyu the following day, making it a great stop. Super friendly hosts, clean and tidy accommodation, French-style cuisine was a nice novelty and very tasty.

AustraliaI loved every about this place.
We loved the very traditional Ryokan and the kind and friendly Masa and Sara who just made our stay (myself with adult son and adult daughter) most enjoyable. The food was excellent with a combination of Japanese and French. We felt very much at home sharing the place with other guests who were also very friendly (Alex and Jenny).

NorwayI guess I can't really blame the property for this, it's after in the 'nature' of being in the mountains.. A giant spider greeted me from out behind my yukata when I went to grab it as I woke up. When I ran into the living room a 20cm poisonous giant centipede was making its way into the living room! Masa dealt with it, but it definitely made me skittish! I do have myself to blame for making my way into the Japanese mountains, though... On the path, I saw giant hornets, snakes, spiders, centipedes, giant horse flies and you name it, basically flailing my way through the Wakayama mountains. But I made it out alive. Luckily no bears!
Masa and Sara are a great couple and very friendly! I loved chatting with them and eating Sara's homemade French Japanese fusion multi-course dinner. Masa also gave us a frozen towel as we arrived which was very welcome. We had beers on the patio which was amazing. Also the place was very refurbished, new and clean. Beds were very comfy!
