Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. United States of AmericaI loved everything.
The staff was very friendly, the food was great, and the room and private onsen were clean. Next time, I’m spending a week here rather than a day and a half! There was so much to explore, the ryokan even had a small museum and a beautiful garden.

SwitzerlandCheck-out timing was not very flexible and cost a charge for an hour later than the usual 11am time, but reasonable. The host that introduced us to the room and facilities could not speak English well and we took quite awhile to get settled in. But he was very friendly and apologetic, but our experience could be a lot more exceptional if we had an English speaking host.
We had the perfect room with the best view. The staff was friendly, and the service was good.

CanadaI loved everything, but our room was visited by a lot of stink bugs due to the changing season. The staff are super helpful in helping us catch them, but they were a minor nuisance that subtracted a bit from an otherwise truly amazing experience. I'd still recommend this ryokan regardless.
Nishimuraya Honkan is an absolutely superb ryokan and amongst the top ryokans I have visited across many onsen towns in Japan. We stayed 3 nights. The atmosphere was beautiful and peaceful, the staff and service top notch, and the food is exquisite. Not all staff speak fluent English, but we had no issues communicating. We had the half board so dinners are served in our room while breakfasts are in a common room, with different menus every day. Every meal was meticulously prepared and a feast. We had the large Japanese style Horai room that had an open air bath (as well as open air shower - some may find it a bit cold in cooler months but it was fine for us in Spring), which was very enjoyable and relaxing. Don't miss the coffee/tea/juice area on the first floor that looks out to a lovely garden, and taking a walk in the garden to see their beautiful koi fish. Although the ryokan is about a 12 minute walk from Kinosakionsen Station, there is a bus from the station that can take you directly to the ryokan, and we were also able to get on the hotel's shuttle back to the station when we left. An amazing and highly recommended experience that's not to be missed if you ever visit Kinosaki Onsen.

AustraliaThe shower is a touch dated - but you don't use it much due to onsen. And the arrival experience could have been smoother - some of the staff were a bit chaotic, grabbing different guest bags and double-checking names - when it could have easily been as calm as the rest of our stay was
While pricey I'd say it's 100% worth the value through the beautiful garden-view rooms, INCREDIBLE five-star dinner and breakfast experience and the service + you have the best onsen in town right in the hotel. Even though their sister hotel was closed - the staff went above and beyond to accommodate a morning private onsen before we left which is exceptional service. This stay be a lifetime memory for us, we loved it.

United States of AmericaMy husband has tattoos on arms and legs and they required you to cover all tattoos with stickers at the hotel, or book the private onsen. Unfortunately at the time we stayed there the private onsen at the sister property was not open, so he was not able to use the hotel onsen at all. The rest of the town is tattoo friendly and it would seem to make sense to allow tattoos at this onsen as well?. The stickers are not really going to work for larger tattoos. The hotel onsen is beautiful but I think it needs to be more flexible for paying guests!
Everything was amazing. Beautiful historic property. Service was amazing and the food was excellent. The rooms are spacious, very clean and relaxing. The town is amazing, straight out of a postcard - it was really nice to walk around in our robes and visit the public onsen. Absolutely worth the trek to this town! About 2.5 hrs from Kyoto on the train.

The breakfast was exceptional, in a delightful breakfast hall. Great Japanese food. This is a beautiful convenient facility. We really enjoyed the traditional Japanese experience. Great room with view of Japanese garden outside. Highly recommended. Kinosakionsen is a beautiful interesting village and visiting the various hot spring baths was the most wonderful experience.

United States of AmericaThe only thing that could have improved our stay was a little more explanation/information in English regarding what to expect during our stay. For example, presenting a map of the town, with information about accessing each of the onsen. Also, my son and I both have large feet -- the largest geta were still 2+ inches too short for his feet, which made walking onsen to onsen on the cobblestone streets a bit of a challenge. Otherwise, we just could not have had a more positive experience at Nishimuraya Honkan.
My teenage son and I wanted to book a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) and also visit some onsen at the beginning of our time in Japan. This ryokan exceeded our expectations. Such gracious service by the entire staff. The yukata that was presented to us to wear during our stay was a wonderful surprise. Juice, coffee and water are available all day long, in a quiet, beautifully furnished lounge. We enjoyed an incredible breakfast both mornings - the first morning we chose the Japanese breakfast, and the next day we tried the Western breakfast.

JapanI thought (personal opinion) that the music during breakfast was unnecessary and not in keeping with the ambience of the space. I would have preferred to just have enjoyed the natural sound of the space. I realize this is highly subjective

United States of AmericaWe have been to Kinosaki Onsen several times and had always wanted to stay at Nishimuraya for their crab feast. We were not disappointed - it was very oishii (delicious)! Breakfast the next morning was also excellent. What stands out in my mind the most is the impeccable service. They provided a train schedule for us so we could let them know when we were arriving and told us how to catch the shuttle to their ryokan. They also accommodated my husband's preference for no meat. After checking in my husband asked for a barber. Not only did they call and make an appointment for him, but they drove us there in their hotel car. When we left the next day, we got the same service to the train station. The facilities at this ryokan are very clean. Our stay was slow paced and relaxing, which is what we wanted. I would recommend this ryokan to everyone!

SwedenThere wasn't anything that we did not like.
This Honkan has perfect location in Kinosaki Onsen, it is an traditional Japanese property, more like a museum, with beautiful Japanese Garden and hot spring baths. Our room had this amazing view over the garden, it has been traditional Japanese experience, with sitting on tatami mats, futons, beautiful yakutas that were changed frequently, all possible amenities, afternoon matcha and absolutely delicious kaiseki dinners prepared of highest quality products. Breakfast was served in a beautiful room and has been out of this world (we chose Japanese breakfast). Service provided by the personal, was exceptional and diligent.

AustraliaI believe that there was not enough clarification , not being clear on how to wear the yukatas for foreigners. Greatly detailed book but wish there were simple details, legend for what Yukata and the jacket pieces look like.
The staff were exceptional, incredible service from start to finish - entry to exit. The accommodation was so beautiful, it was an honour to see the garden and lobby alone. The staff were very friendly and approachable, accomodating to any changes with short notice in professional manner. The food was encompassing and incredible in delivery and taste. I especially really appreciate the option for cooked and raw meats because it is rare to have high quality seafood that is not raw in Japan. The attention to detail was the cherry on-top. Picked us up as soon as we arrived and had drivers ready even at 9-11pm. Magical package of a hotel stay.

Beautiful old ryakon with plenty of traditional features. We immediately got to the right mood for our Japanese hot spring holiday. Our room was comfortable and the view to the gardens was simply stunning. I recommend visiting the garden during the morning, it's a good spot for photos.
