Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. NetherlandsNothing at all, and we couldn’t even complain about the weather because we had two gloriously sunny days for our trekking.
Yuki and Toru’s hospitality was exceptional. Their accommodation all crafted from local wood, is immaculately clean. Our room was very comfortable. There was a lovely dining room which we sat and worked in before dinner. We stayed in early April and it was pleasantly cool so we didn’t have to use the air conditioning. We were fortunate enough to sample a selection of three different offerings for dinner each evening. This is where the essence of Yuki’s and Toru’s hospitality and generosity was evident. The meals were of exceptional quality, prepared with care, be it the cooked elements by Yuki or the fish caught by Tori. Don’t miss out - treat yourselves and take your evening meals there. During our evening chats with Yuki we learnt more about their commitment to nature, organic farming and love for Yakushima. After making our booking, Yuki guided us seamlessly through the somewhat complicated processes of getting to and from the island by booking our ferry crossings and by reserving our car rental. The accommodation is strategically well positioned for the start of the hike to Jomon Sugi (early start essential) and others, several scenic waterfalls, the Hirauchi Kaichi and Yudomari Onsens on the sea (less than 5 minutes away), as well as the splendidly scenic and interesting UNESCO World Heritage Listed Coastal Road where you can see monkeys and deer in abundance in their natural habitat - the beautiful reality of the landscape of Miyazaki’s “Princess Mononoke.”

GermanyEverything was great. :) Thank you, Yuki
We loved our four nights at Pension Blue Drop! Yuki is such a nice person and host. She recommended us what to visit on the island, helped with ferry tickets and car rental, made us great breakfast and lunch boxes which we enjoyed when hiking the beautiful forests of Yakushima, and greeted us with a warm smile everytime we met her. The beds of Yuki's pension were very comfortable (also for tall people ;)) and the room was spacious and clean, bathroom was clean and spacious, shampoo smelled great, the washing machine cleaned our clothes, and the location was perfect to explore this magical island. We would definitely come back to Yuki's place.

SwitzerlandWe spent three nights at Pension Blue Drop and it was a great experience. We had all the meals there (Breakfast, lunchboxes, Kaiseki dinner) because we are vegetarian and didn't want the hassle of looking for food around the island. So glad we did this! Yuki is an exceptional host and her freshly prepared food was incredibly delicious (fruit and vegetables from the garden, and every day there was at least something we haven't tried before). Even though a car is recomended we didn't have one, but the bus stop is only 2 min on foot. We were prepared that there aren't that many buses, but with Yuki's instructions it was easy to do two daytrips from there to Oko Waterfall and Yakusugi Land. If we come to Yakushima again, we would definitely stay at Pension Blue Drop.

One of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Yuki reserved ferry & car for us, which was fantastic. She also gave us loads of tips to make the stay more enjoyable. Food was excellent. Do rent a car if you can, makes getting around the island a lot easier.

United KingdomThe food was absolutely delicious but a touch on the expensive side so, if you need to keep costs lower, factor in that you'll have to go elsewhere for some of your meals since there aren't cooking facilities here.
Beautiful home which was spotlessly clean and decorated perfectly to match the surroundings of Yakushima. Yuki was a wonderful host who always had a smile on her face, would ask us about our day and had lots of recommendations. She was also really helpful making reservations for us, etc. We felt truly at home here and will come straight back when we visit Yakushima again.

CanadaIt was on the south end of the island a little removed but gave us a chance to meet with crafters at their location.
Yuki is an awesome host. She takes her job seriously offering help with sorting out situations her guests are dealing with. Offering support and direction. Loved her meals in-fact the only place we ate. She is an artist and enjoyed her plating of meals where she used her personal pieces for meals. As well she offered her pieces to guests at a very reasonable price. An amazing hostess making our experience on Yakushima Island very enjoyable. Thanks for everything!!

United States of AmericaYuki and Toru were great hosts, very friendly and welcoming. Yuki went above and beyond, helping us rent a car and book our ferry in advance when I was having trouble finding an available car. When we first arrived she told us about many of the local attractions, both how to get there and when to go. The breakfast, lunch, and dinner options are great for exploring the island. When we had a big hiking day they prepared both a packed breakfast and lunch, which allowed us to get an early start. The beef tongue stew was great for dinner. We found that finding food in the evening on Yakushima can be a bit challenging, so having the option to have dinner waiting for us was very convenient. The room was comfortable, serving its purpose well. The water was good to drink and there was a kettle. The location was good for winding down each night, as two beach hot springs are very close by. Overall we had a great stay! Yakushima is an amazing place.

AustraliaStaying with Yuki was one of the most memorable experiences from our trip to Yakushima. It really felt like home. The beautiful cedar house is so welcoming and perfect to come back to after exploring the island. Our room was lovely, very spacious and opened to the garden. We ate an unforgettable dinner at the home, made by our host. With home grown fruits, vegetables and locally caught fish. The house was easy to get to by bus from the ferry port, and our host went above and beyond to help us when we needed some guidance on navigating the island. The house is a short walk from a lovely bar/restaurant, Hachimans, which we highly recommend. Excellent food, lovely atmosphere, and Karaoke all night! It's a 30 min walk to the ocean onsen which is a must visit (thank you again for loaning me your sarong Yuki!). We hope to visit Yakushima again to do some of the trails we didn't get to and would love to visit Blue Drop again. Thank you for having us! Lee and Reubin x

United States of AmericaNote that the walls are not sound-proof and carry sound very easily: free earplugs are provided upon request. This is recommended, especially since there is a daily 6am city-wide morning wake-up alarm! There was otherwise no issue with noise. As a light and fitful sleeper, I was able to slept comfortably each night. All other guests (there are 3 total rooms) during my stay were very courteous of the posted quiet hours and house guidelines.
Highly recommend Yuki's beautifully clean and charming guesthouse. Yuki is a lovely host, and she was gracious, responsive, and helpful throughout my stay. Opt for the breakfasts and dinners that are caught, picked, and prepared in house: breakfast is fresh, and dinner is stunning. Orders are needed before 8pm each night and are well worth it. The rooms are very clean with comfortable Japanese-style beds. Yuki's guesthouse is located on the south coast of Yakushima Island. The entire island can be driven around in 3 hours, so her guesthouse is within comfortable driving distance of all major points of interest. If you decide to take public transit, Yuki will help you work out the tricky bus timetables, but a rental car is highly recommended on your visit to Yakushima! Yuki was essential in helping me to arrange English-speaking rental car staff who were ready to greet me with a clean and reliable rental car at the port of my choosing upon my ferry arrival. Even just walking around Yuki's neighborhood provides stunning snapshots of Yakushima Island - I recommend the walking route that takes you to the ocean. During my guesthouse check-in, Yuki was great about recommending local points of interest and helping me familiarize myself with the hiking routes I was interested in. In short, I would love to return to Yakushima and would absolutely love to stay in Yuki's guesthouse again.

AustraliaNothing. It was fantastic. Definitely worth hiring a car to get around Yakushima. But that’s if you’re staying in Yakushima in general.
Our stay at Pension Blue Drop was absolutely fantastic all thanks to Yuki and Toru. We were travelling in a family group of 6 adults. We booked two out of the three rooms and they came with two shared toilets, one bathroom and one dining area. They were immaculately clean and comfortable. I have to say a special thanks to Yuki who was incredibly helpful and very communicative from the start. She helped us hire a car, plan our day trips, and also booked our ferry tickets. You must also try their full dinner set. Toru caught fresh fish in the morning that was served for dinner that evening and Yuki is a chef. They very kindly accommodated for two people that were vegan. It was incredibly delicious and one of the best meals we had on Yakushima. Overall their hospitality is second to none. They went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We really appreciated everything you both did. Thank you so much!

They recommened things to do and important natural parks and sites to visit, located few minutes drive away from the onsen and few minutes walk from a nice restaurant and bar. Also we ordered dinner at the guest house and it was very very delicious full menue set including the best home made plum wine we ever had. The facilities are both clean and comfortable. Thank you very much for everything!

Pension BLUE DROP was one of my all time favorite places to stay. Everything about it is amazing. It’s a cozy and beautifully designed cabin with 3 rooms, 2 shared bathrooms, a shower room and a dining room, all of which are immaculately clean. The bedrooms are simple, bright and airy, the beds are firm but comfortable. The best part is that Yuki is incredibly helpful and friendly. She speaks excellent English and is very helpful with planning your itinerary on the island, including help with renting a car, bus transportation and renting trekking gear. And I would go back just for the food. Yuki was a professional chef and every meal is like eating at the best restaurant in Japan. My advice is to try everything, you can order breakfast or dinner to eat in the dining area and they will also prepare you a bento lunch, beautifully wrapped in a banana leaf. Yuki and her husband have gardens and fruit trees, he catches fish, and everything is served fresh. I’ll also say that the location is excellent even though it’s not right next to the “big” sites like YakasugiLand and Shiratani Gorge - the island is small and it’s no more than an easy hour drive on the scenic road that circles the island. Also, you’re within a few minutes drive of two wonderful ocean onsen. Oh, and hanging out with other guests was also a really great part of my stay! Thanks Yuki!!!

We stayed for 3 nights, and every night we tried a different dinner set. First night sashimi (extremely fresh), second night chicken, third night beef stew. All were excellent.
