Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

DenmarkI am too Old for Living on the floor, my back hurts and the chairs were no good. Japanese are not so tall. There was a short non-availability of hot water. I miss breakfast, but in Japan they dont eat breakfast like in Denmark. Only American cafées were open in the morning, luckily
Ryokans are oldfashioned, and a Way to experience an Old culture. Off cource The modern Way ti live is different og much more easy. It was fun to try but never with comfort. I was Living in a single room, you could also book the luksury, by paying double. The bed was wonderfull and to live in the center. And the Japanese bath on 6th floor was wonderful

United States of AmericaThere’s a sign to indicate when someone is in the onsen, but there’s no corner of privacy if you’re actively changing. If someone opens the door, you better be dressed!
The onsen was small but very relaxing. The room was always clean. The staff was very friendly and thoughtful. I forgot something in the onsen, and they found it and gave it to us later! Right in the heart of Asakusa, too. There’s a candy strawberry stall super close by.

NorwayFor a traditional ryokan experience - this is a very nice and central choice. Smack in the middle of everything going on in Asakusa and next door to markets and Senso-ji temple. Very polite and helpful staff!

CanadaSingle room has almost no place to hang clothes. Toilet paper was the cheapest toilet paper available. Not quite sure if they understand that people will be using five times more toilet paper. No in-house laundry facilities and no food options.
Location was crazy good. An oasis amongst the madness of Senso-Ji. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. They are one of the main reasons I would go back.

FinlandNothing really to complain, maybe only steamy window in the cold weather in the onsen, so the view from the window was a bit challenging. But you just accept it.
It’s an amazing experience in a ryokan. Fantastic and kind stuff, spacious room with a tiny cute decorated balcony overlooking the street. Location couldn’t be better, just behind the corner from Nakamise-dori market street and Senso-ji temple. Great for exploring in early morning before it gets full of crowds. The onsen with a view on Tokyo Skytree and another on the pagoda couldn’t be better. They switch sides for men and woman so you can explore both views. Asakusa area became one of our favourite also thanks to the ryokan.

United States of AmericaUnfortunately, this ryokan has suspended dining service while it seeks a new chef. The loss of an in-house breakfast means less efficient use of one’s time for other activities.

United States of AmericaLocation is a five minute walk from Nakamise Shopping street. My room was clean and well maintained although very basic. What I mean by basic is no bidet and a metal key for opening my room's door. That is what I expected from this quaint locale, so I was perfectly happy with my accommodations. I also got a great rate.

United States of AmericaWish the onsen could change male vs female sides occasionally so views of Kinkoji vs Tokyo Skytree can be seen.
Location is unmatched in heart of Asakusa, very near the temple. Shared bath is perfect for unwinding at end of the day. Staff is amazing - the manager helped me communicate with next hotel to store my luggage, helping me save money and providing excellent service.

AustraliaI did request smaller slippers but none could be found, I struggled with the larger ones. There’s virtually nowhere for your stuff, so I wouldn’t like to stay longer than the two nights.
We were able to easily access Asakusa station, the Senso-ji temple and shopping street, Tokyo Skytree and Japankarts. The Ryokan has a warm welcoming feel, the public bath was very nice. We chose a traditional room and this was quite different to the western style room my sister chose. I enjoyed the experience and the closeness to street level. Great food everywhere in the surrounding area.

United States of AmericaLeave any western ideas about size & space behind. The pictures made the "suite" appear much larger than it really was. While it was able to accommodate 4 adults, due to the configuration, we did not have a table to sit at and enjoy our tea as both rooms had beds. I cannot imagine staying in a traditional room with 3 other adults. This also made it a bit challenging to open up our luggage on the floor. There was no breakfast option available to get the full ryokan experience. It seems their chef retired back in August and the opted not to resume this service.
This was our last night after a 2 week trip and were very much looking forward to relaxing before our flight home. The staff was very welcoming and attentive during our stay. I was a bit apprehensive as I had read some unfavorable reviews about the staff. The indoor baths were a welcome amenity, one for men and the other for women. The only downside is that one of the baths is much too small for more than two people and even then, depending on body size it would be quite cramped. The "larger" one would probably be a bit tight for 3 full-sized adults. They are open in the evening from 16:00 to 23:00 and in the morning from 07:00-09:00. The room was decorated in a traditional Japanese manner. You leave your shoes at the door and there are slippers to use indoors. There were paperlined slider doors that led to a balcony as well as a yukata to conveniently wear for the bath. For the balcony, there were wooden soled slippers. There was a welcome tea and treat upon arrival. There was a safe for valuables and a small refrigerator. It is located on a quiet side street off a main street next to a shopping/eating area. The train stations were 5 - 10 minutes walking. The location of the inn made it easy for last minute souvenirs and a good meal before departing. We were able to store our luggage after check out since our flight was later in the day.

United States of AmericaI had a fondness for the previous staff and thoroughly enjoyed the traditional Japanese breakfast they offered, so I was disappointed to learn it was no longer available during my stay. Furthermore, I encountered an uncomfortable situation when another guest attempted to share the onsen with me. Given its small size, accommodating two full-sized men was impractical and led to an awkward encounter. In hindsight, I believe it would greatly improve the experience if the onsen were made private or available through reservations to avoid such instances in the future.
Due to recent staff changes, the hotel unfortunately no longer offers breakfast on-site; however, they provided excellent recommendations for nearby dining options. Despite the small size, the room was adequate for both me and my partner, meeting our needs comfortably. Furthermore, the hotel's perfect location facilitated easy access to various sightseeing attractions, enhancing our overall experience.

BulgariaMinor quirks - the common bath is small - one person, max two, really, but I was on my own both times I went so that was no problem; they don't offer any good - dinner nor breakfast; futon beds - think ahead if you'll be comfy with them, not for everyone
Very helpful staff; great location - at the heart of Asakusa; have a cool common bath in addition to in-room shower. Overall, a great place

GermanyNothing to complain - everything was fine!
My booked room was a little bit tiny, but we are talking about the capitcal city Tokyo. Yet it was very efficient, clean and spacious enough for me. The room was japanese style designed with tatami mats, wallscrolls and futon beds. The hotel is very close to specific train lines and other locations like the Asakusa shrine in just a few steps. There was no breakfast included. The staff was very kind and very helpful, even though with my limited japanese, they helped me in english perfectly. I liked the short stay there and I will definitely pay a visit again at Ryokan Asakusa Shigetsu!
