Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomAs it's located near popular sights (Nanzenji, Eikando and the Philosopher's Walk), the buses (#5 and #32) are almost always crowded. Best to take the #203 from another stop (Higashi Tennocho) to go into town.
We had a wonderful stay at Toru's place. With three bedrooms, two toilets (one of which is upstairs convenient for those nocturnal visits), a Japanese style bathroom (with deep tub) plus a separate shower and dressing area, it was perfect for us (5 adults and 1 child). Great location for the Higashiyama sights including the start/end of the Philosopher's Walk, Eikando, Nanzenji. There were enough bicycles for guest use although we only used them once. We discovered a scenic path into downtown (Shijo Kawaramachi area) along Shirakawa canal/stream all the way to Kamogawa (river).

United StatesVery charming Japanese style house with kitchen, 2 bathrooms, 2 toilets, rooms for 8 people. The back yard is a plus and very nice. The house is clean. The location is close to supermarket, bus station at walking distance. The location of the house is about 20 minutes by bus to main areas of Kyoto. It’s not too far from Kyoto main attractions. The host is very courteous. He welcomed us the first day we arrived to show us around the house and explained the map, the location of the main attractions. The house is small but cozy and totally as expected as it is Japanese style house. We would be back at this place again if we come as a group. Very reasonable price. The house is like in the pictures.

Location was great, near philosophers path and quiet residential area. It was perfect for 3 couples and kids to have 3 separate rooms and 2 bathrooms. The host kindly prepared welcome snacks and breakfast which was very helpful. Wish we could stay there longer.

SingaporeThe staircase leading to the upper floor is a little steep, may be an issue for the physically challenged. Not a problem for our group of four members.
Convenient location, very clean traditional Japanese house that is well equipped with modern facilities, private parking, nice quiet neighbourhood. I would have given it perfect 10/10 if not for the steep staircase leading to the upper floor. Our host Toru San was very welcoming, met us on arrival at the house and patiently explained everything in the house. He even helped us unloaded our luggage and parked our car. He has also been most generous to have stocked up some snacks and breakfast foods, which was most helpful to us for a comfortable start the next morning.

AustraliaNo complaints!
What a lovely traditional style house and exceptional host. The house was in great condition and our host Toru made sure we had all essential amenities and also provided us with many snacks and breakfast ingredients. The location is in a peaceful town with some shrines nearby and the city centre just 30 mins away by walk. Would definitely say it is worth the money and provides more amenities than a hotel would. Will definitely stay again when we next visit Kyoto!
