We have stayed in some nice places on our trip so far but unsui raises the bar to a new level! This place is a paradise for anyone who loves beautiful materials, fine craftsmanship, and sensitive design. Satori and Hal are wonderful, helpful, and generous hosts. A beautiful place to stay and spend time. I will recommend it to friends and hope to return again myself!

The hosts were so lovely and helpful! We got stuck out in heavy rains and she messaged us advice on how to stay safe. The next morning, we learned the trains were delayed due to the weather and she called a few bus companies to see what our options were, and when it was impossible ti get a taxi to the train, she very kindly drove us to the station. The rooms are beautiful, with traditional Japanese elements and modern comforts. The property is located in a quiet neighborhood a quick taxi or easy walk from the train station (when there isn’t a typhoon lol)

We deeply regret only scheduling two nights here. Should have done 4.

Satomi was very kind, friendly, and helpful; also spoke great English. The apartment is fantastic, pictures really can't do it justice, it's got such a great flow and cozy feeling. We stopped by the Youme grocery store (also really neat compared to what we've seen in the US) and used the kitchen to heat up our meals. The washing machine worked great and was a lifesaver halfway through our vacation. Takeo itself is lovely, definitely pay a visit to the library and the camphor tree and both restaurants we visited were out of this world.

The immaculate apartment, extremely comfortable futons and detailed guides to local attractions. A suggestion for your kind consideration: a washer cum dryer as it would help your guests. Thank you very much, Mr Hal & Ms Satomi!

We had a lovely time staying in this traditional Japanese style apartment. It is tidy and spacious, has lots of details hidden around the corners. The host was very friendly, responsive and helpful, provided detailed suggestions about placed worth visiting in Takeo and even guided us to see fireflies at night. The day we checkout out of the apartment we forgot backpack on the bus, the host was kind enough to contact the bus company for us right away. This is by far the most pleasant stay we ever had in any country.

We stayed with friends & family, and booked both apartments on the third floor -- it was a perfect arrangement. Satomi-san and her husband are two of the best hosts we've met in our many months of travel across Japan over the years. They helped us coordinate the multiple parties' stays, gave excellent activity recommendations, looked to our needs in every way and even kindly helped us with our schedule/reservations for a future trip to Japan. What an amazing experience of omotenashi, genuine Japanese hospitality! We'll love to be back, and highly recommend staying here to all our friends and family.

Satomi-san and her husband are incredibly kind, caring hosts! We felt so welcomed every day, and happily received many suggestions on what to do in the area -- we stayed a week, and there were many places to explore: onsens, pottery, tea, shrines, villages, strawberries, sake, seaside... Satomi-san suggested to us maps/itineraries of her favorite places, and even made reservations (the hosts speak excellent English in addition to native Japanese). Location is perfect, interactions rewarding, apartment very comfortable & Japanese, we woud love to be back! Kyushu is like its own country, and Saga prefectures with Takeo hub has everything -- without the tourist crowds, love it!

    Perfect small town get-away/home-base

There wasn't really anything we didn't like. The shower did have a large, deep window sill (metal) that would collect water during our showers. I usually tried to shower last so I could wipe it off. I remember wishing it had a slight incline so the water would flow off of it on its own. That's barely a problem and easily dealt with, but it's pretty much the only critical thing I can think of! I guess parking can be a little tricky. I like how compact and tucked away it is, but that also means it requires some skill to park. The hosts offered to help us get our car in there if we ever needed any help, so I don't think it's an issue.. It's just important to be attentive and careful when parking.

The accommodation was amazing. This was our 7th lodging during our trip, and all previous stays were either western or japanese, but Unsui was noteworthy in offering a comfortable mix of both--namely in the sense of having a western style dining room table adjacent to tatam living- and bed- rooms. This was a great bonus for one of the people in my party, whose knees and back were starting to get sore from sitting on the floor at so many places. Since we were a party of 2, it was nice that the living room could easily act as a bedroom, which sliding panel-walls that could fully close it off from both the bedroom as well as the adjacent kitchen. Everything was super clean and tidy and tastefully decorated. The hosts met us on arrival and were very warm and welcoming. They were well prepared with dossiers on both Takeo and many nearby towns (including every town that was on our agenda). They also gave us the lowdown on the nearby onsen. We had several conversations with them during our stay and would happily have more; they were great conversationalists with many experiences! The nearby onsen was less than a 5 minute stroll down the block, and has three different baths plus an attached museum to visit. Between the various entrances, they had a mix of indoor and outdoor baths, and some of them were very hot (no lukewarm waters here)! The later baths were open until midnight, and I went nearly every evening to close out the day. This was my first time using a bath that wasn't within my accommodation, so this aspect was a horizon-broadening moment for me. Takeo itself was also nicer than I expected. The very modern town library and adjacent (traditional) shrine were beautiful. The streets around the Unsui had many, small hole-in-the-wall establishments. It was an extremely comfortable base from which to explore Saga.

Everything. The host and her husband were angels. The house is gorgeous, well located, extremely well equipped and great value. The host provided extremely clear and useful instructions on things to do and even took us to see night-time cherry blossom bloom and to the Takeo shrine. In the morning the host and her husband took us to the Takeo station so we didn't get soaked in the pouring rain. The beds were also extremely comfortable and we both slept so well and it was quiet, we could only hear the sound of rain.

The traditional house set up. 2 tatami rooms with 2 futon beds each.thw tatami beds were very comfortable. It's like an air bnb and the hosts were super helpful. I didn't even have to contact them upon arrival. They came down to greet us and were available for any question. They were very kind in suggesting places to see. It has an elevator as well, so it was great for luggage.

Very nice traditional Japanese house, yet still very comfortable for modern lifestyle. Every window has a mosquito net, so you're protected in the night from anything out there. The locations is just next to the Onsen, but it's still super calm. The owner is very nice, helpful and thoughtful and overall offers superb hospitality. We 100 percent recommend this place!
