Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Absolutely lovely old school Japanese guesthouse that is unpretentious & comfy to the core. Location is perfect for sightseeing and museum hopping with great restaurants nearby. They mentioned a small breakfast but i thought it was perfect. A spread of thick bread slices that can be toasted, jams and spreads, bananas, all types of tea & coffee too. There are two showers downstairs which were great to rejuvenate after a long day. Highly recommend booking this place in advance to get the most of Naoshima life within a good budget!

CanadaBring earplugs—Yado is located on a small residential street. Because Naoshima is on an island, lots of residents have scooters and bikes that go through the street. If you're planning to sleep in (which isn't too common, as most are up early to Art hop around the island), then definitely bring some earplugs for the morning.
Yado is located 5 minutes' walk from the ferry. We enjoyed the traditional accommodation experience. Yado staff waited for our arrival and checked us in. We enjoyed the light continental breakfast, which included British thick-cut bread and various jams and butter. It felt like we were staying in a typical Japanese BnB. There was a nice mix of Japanese tourist and forgeiners

AustraliaThe owner Kumiko-san was very kind and very responsive to my many inquiries. The breakfast (bread and some really nice jam/PB) and coffee were a big surprise. When I arrived, Akira-san was so helpful that he took my luggage upstairs (typical Japanese wooden staircase, i.e steep and narrow) which my knees particularly felt thankful for. Thanks for a nice stay.

United KingdomThere's no soundproofing on the windows facing the road, and quite a bit of car-ferry traffic comes rumbling past there in the mornings. I would have liked a safe in the room for valuables and cash, as the front door is often open and unstaffed – though I appreciate that there's not much crime around!
As a low-cost, hostel-style option, Yado Seven Beach was great. The friendly hostess greeted us and showed us around. The room was fairly spacious with tatami mats and futon beds, a cupboard, small table and room to hang clothes. You could choose a western bed room if preferred. There's a kitchen with fridge space to use, with the hostess providing a simple breakfast of bread, spreads, tea and coffee in the reception-diner. The toilet and shower facilities are all shared. Separate shower/bath rooms are on the ground floor and very clean, with a changing area to yourself. I also used the art bath just a few mins down the road which was a fun experience. It's also close to the e-bike hire and the ferry terminal. No frills, but all you need! A note: Make sure to book all dinners in advance – even the low-key places. We tried a few places one night, but nearly everywhere was booked up.

Very warm welcome from our host who was helpful throughout, with buses, restaurants and more. This was a traditional Japanese boarding house, private room with shared bath room; excellent air conditioning and with temperatures at 36 degrees we needed it!. First experience with futons and we slept well. Good WiFi.
