Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

MexicoNone.
The facilities were beautiful especially the gardens. The onsens both indoor and outdoor were excellent. We had breakfast and dinner each day and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. I like being able to wear our yakutas everywhere including the dining rooms. The location was quiet but only a few steps away from the main street with all the stores and eateries. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a beautiful view of the Japanese garden.

SpainEverything was great
As everyone else wrote in their reviews the garden is truly magical. Onsens are great, and for those who prefer slightly colder water there is also a swimming pool. The food was very nice, staff welcoming and helpful. During breakfast it was great to have the traditional Japanese dishes but also the ‘make your own’ fried egg option, really good idea!

United StatesI should have booked more time in Hakone so that I can enjoy the area a little bit more. The hotel was great so I wished I stayed longer.
The gardens were amazing. The location is excellent as it was very close to the main shopping area, train station and also the walking trail behind the neighborhood.

ItalyWe had booked our room with breakfast and dinner included. Unfortunately there was little variety. Only Japanese dinner and breakfast were served and only of a kind. I don’t eat certain meat cuts and there was no possibility to have a variation on the menu. The impossibility to have a continental breakfast is only a con of the experience considering for the high standard and high price of this structure. The AC in the room was noisy and without it, we could not sleep.
The garden and the outdoor onsen are stunning. We loved our bedroom facing the garden as well as the room interior design. We would come back for these.

United KingdomWe were greeted by the friendly staffs, although there was a miscommunication when making booking and we had to pay extra for the children, staffs were very helpful. Our children particularly enjoyed the swimming pool, floats and goggles provided. Onset was amazing too, especially the outdoor ones. We will come back again.

United StatesA little bit expensive but probably because we booked late.
⬆️ traditional onsen place. The Japanese garden is so beautiful. There are several types of bath you can choose. I love the outside ones. And it was not crowded due to summer season. ⬆️ walkable distance from the train station. ⬆️ you cannot add breakfast at the reception and it is hard to find suitable breakfast place there. Therefore, it could be better to order the breakfast while booking the room.

United KingdomBeautiful hotel and gardens. The photographs on the website do not do them justice. The staff were extremely helpful, the room everything I expected from a ryokan. The food was extremely high quality in terms of content, presentation and service, again, exceeding our expectations. The location is a little way from the main attractions of Hakone but is very convenient for the station and for buses. Public transport is fast, reliable and cheap. The view from our room was exceptional.

United StatesLoved the traditional Japanese style of our room. Views of the large, gorgeous Japanese garden provided me a serenity I've never experienced before. I was nicely surprised to see wall sconces designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the lobby.

DenmarkThe breakfast is very traditionally Japanese, so if you are a bit picky, don't go for this option. Also, it would be nice if a menu or a hint of what the breakfast consists of would be displayed somewhere since it's not refundable.
The scenery and the gardens are stunning. The onsen is nice and quiet, with pretty greenery around. The staff is kind, professional, and helpful. Our room was spacious with a lot of natural light and a view of the mountainside.

United Arab EmiratesA few cons: while our room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable, the common areas felt a little worn and could use some freshening up. Also, I was a bit disappointed to find that the onsen was closed after breakfast until the late afternoon - something to be aware of when planning your day.
We stayed here during a rainy spell, and honestly, the weather only made the experience more magical. The hotel’s garden is absolutely stunning—tranquil, beautifully designed, and truly one of the highlights of our visit. Even just walking through it in the rain felt like stepping into a Studio Ghibli scene. It was also our first time trying an onsen, which was a bit intimidating as a foreigner. I was nervous about making a faux pas. I’d really recommend the hotel staff consider asking international guests about their onsen experience and maybe include a short etiquette guide or explanation in the welcome brochure. That small addition would make a big difference! A lovely touch was the Japanese-style clothing set provided by the hotel; it was so comfortable and made the whole experience feel extra special. We booked with dinner and breakfast included, and it was so worth it. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and the dining setting was lovely. The location was also super convenient: there’s a bus stop right across the street, which made it really easy to explore the area.

GermanyLiterally nothing
The most "elite" experience I ever had, better than all the 5 star hotels I've been to. Perhaps because I'm a japanophile, idk. I regretted that I didn't book a room with food included, because it seems that it's really great, and we couldn't get it once we arrived because all the timeslots were booked. Instead we ate A5 wagyu steaks in the hotel steak house that were cooked in front of us and served with some traditional dishes, all of that for just about $130 per person. The coolest feature is that a "great view" is not an optional thing you have to pay for. There is a great view from literally every window – either on the green mountains or the beautifully built garden. These great views are not only in rooms, but also in reception, lounges, and hallways. Coupled with the fact that you receive a yukata you can wear everywhere, including the cozy town nearby, it gives a really authentic experience. The hotel is basically on the border of that town, and if you go further it's just mountains and forest. Since all the windows show either that forest or the internal garden, it feels like you are in some distant mountain/forest resort, while it's actually really easy to get to (like 5 minutes from the station) and you can go experience some civilization and a freaking star wars / evangelion merch shop in like 10 meters.

United StatesWe originally had the traditional Japanese room with garden view. It looked old and had a strong odor. The bathroom was outdated and the furniture was very uncomfortable. To get fresh towels, we had to bring the used towels to the front lobby. We also had to use the bedroom towels for the hotel Onsen.
We upgraded to a modern western style room with a private Onsen and Mountain View which made our whole stay worthwhile. The garden and koi fish pond was beautiful and the multi-course culinary experience was amazing.
